Website of the Day: 1000 Awesome Things

Who doesn't need a daily dose of awesome? I'm loving the latest site I stumbled upon, 1000 Awesome Things. From the surprising (#765: Thinking it's Thursday when it's really Friday) to the simply satisfying (#727: Letting go of the gas pump at just the right moment), the pain-relieving (#920: Getting the eyelash out of your eye) to small victories (#791: Getting the armrest at the movies), and my personal favorite, #654: Peeling that thin plastic film off of new electronics, the site features new awesomeness every day.

They're counting backwards from 1,000 and are nearing the halfway point; I can't wait to see what comes next!

The Vampire Diaries "Ordinary People": The Good, the Bad, and the Bloody

On this week's episode of The Vampire Diaries, we pick up where we left off - perplexed by the mysterious writings on the cave walls beneath the Lockwood property. It's imperative that Alaric, Elena, and Damon unearth the meaning behind these ancient cryptic inscriptions, for better or for worse. With Stefan locked up, Rebekah basking in her new-found high school popularity, Klaus nowhere to be found, and Katherine stirring up trouble with Mikael (we presume), it'll take more than a little luck for the motley trio to decipher the cave code.

For Elena that means making nice with Barbie Klaus in order to press her for information about her past, while Damon tests out a riskier method of research, and Alaric continues to work tirelessly to crack the "vampire Pictionary" messages the old-school way. Lessons Learned From Threadless Photographers

Recently, Photoshelter founder Grover Sanschagrin visited the halls of Threadless (one of my favorite t-shirt companies ever) to see how and where its awesome images are captured for the online retail shop. Not only do we get an in-depth peek into a day in the life of photographers Sean Dorgan and Sean Donohue in the 10-minute video (which you can see after the break), but the tour offers up a few important lessons about photography as well. Take a look at the six tips I walked away with below!

Change up your locations - The guys at Threadless shoot indoors and out and aren't afraid to try new locations.
Try different lighting techniques - Whether they're in the studio or out in the alley behind the office, these photographers use light in dramatic ways. Don't hesitate to try new lighting techniques - lighting from behind, natural light, and different angles - to make the most of your shoot.
Take a lot of photos - With nearly 30 shirt photo shoots a week, these guys have each shot almost 1,000 shirts in total. Each shoot helps you learn what works and what doesn't, so keep shooting! Practice really does make perfect.
