Do You Ever Send Mean Emails?

Dec 12 2008 - 4:00pm When I saw the following clip on Live With Regis and Kelly, I couldn't help but LOL.

Sending a mean email is incredibly dangerous. The proof you were mean is there forever and the potential for a misunderstanding is even greater over emails. I've been on the receiving end of one from someone at work for no reason, and by my own negative feelings towards that person, I know I'll never do the same thing. Don't write emails when you're having a bad day. Sticking out tongue

I've sent a few things that people would consider "mean" BUT I would also be willing to say those things to the person in public. That, I think, is where the line should be drawn. (And just because the person perceives it to be mean doesn't mean that is should not be said... or even that it really IS mean.)

All my emails are friendly, I don't keep in touch with people unless we're friends.

I would only say something in an email that I would say to some one in person, so if I did send a mean email, it would have to be something I was really upset about.

I wrote a really mean email to someone who I was having a really tough with, but rather than send it to her, I sent it to my best friend with the explanation that I just needed to get it out of my system without starting a fight. It made me feel better and my BFF helped me work through how to handle the situation.

Yea its definitely best avoided. I have drafted up some pretty nasty emails (only in response to other nasty emails, of course), but I always wait until I cool off or have a neutral party go over them for me to edit and send. Then Nasty just becomes overly polite with a vague hint of sarcasm.

I used to send mean emails to my then-boyfriend all the time when I was in my early twenties. I don't do it anymore though. It's immature and -- as mentioned here -- DANGEROUS!

I don't say anything in text that I wouldn't say to someone's face. I also do not post pictures of myself on the internet that I would be embarrassed if my boss saw them.

i think that i may have sent one or 2 in the past - because there are times that you just want to tell someone 'like it is' without having to look at them or listen to them. i am very very very careful about what i put in writing though since you just never know when it's going to come back to haunt you.

I like to think I'm a pretty "nice" person in general. I have to try really hard to be mean. My e-mails usually reflect that.

Only the rage that sometimes accompanies awful eBay transactions can inspire a truly mean email from me.

However, I post snarky messages on message boards and blogs fairly often. Smiling
