Sony Unveils Colorful New Walkman Line in Japan

Yet again, Japan gets the goods before the rest of us.

Yet again, Japan gets the goods before the rest of us. Case in point: Sony introduced its new Walkman line yesterday, which clocks in with 12 models. The E and S series Walkman will launch in Japan on Oct. 9, while the higher-end A series will hit on Nov. 13. Although there has been no word on whether these stylish MP3 players will come to the good ole US of A (or anywhere else for that matter), my gut intuition says we might just see them in the near future. Learn about all three models below, and just try to tell me you don't want one.

E Series
This entry-level Walkman (pictured here) comes in two flavors — the E050 with 2 or 4GB of storage space, or the E050K, which includes a speaker with its 2 or 4GB option. Prices range from $95-$140.

Bring This Waterproof Walkman on Your Next Run

Though they've put out a ton of stylish products since their cassette-player days, I can't help associating Walkman with the clunky yellow gadget I carried with me everywhere I went.

Though they've put out a ton of stylish products since their cassette-player days, I can't help associating Walkman with the clunky yellow gadget I carried with me everywhere I went. But as a geek girl who's into fitness, I'm pretty excited for the latest addition to their product lineup: the Walkman NWZ-W250 series MP3 player. The devices are made for working out; they're sweat- and waterproof, and weigh just over an ounce.

They're available in two sizes — 2GB and 4GB — and four colors. Starting at $60, you'll be able to snatch one of these up later this month. They carry up to 11 hours of battery life, but the best feature is the quick charge function; three minutes of charging powers the device for up to 90 minutes. Perfect for people who (like me) forget to charge their gadgets before going for a run.

Don't be fooled by this retro mini boombox wristlet by Loop Design. It may look like it's from the early eighties, but with working speakers, this case is tiny and mighty.

For only $14, you can use it as a cute pouch for your mp3 player or hook up your iPod to the speakers for a jam session!

Play Dress-Up With Sony's New E-Series Walkman MP3 Players

Sony has spiced up their latest E-Series mp3 players with hip new interchangeable jackets.

Sony has spiced up their latest E-Series mp3 players with hip new interchangeable jackets. Choose from a basic black or white models and then personalize it with over twenty different "Style-Up" panels. What's great about these NW-E-series walkman sticks which I spotted on Gizmodo, is the fact that they come with a USB plug that you can directly connect to your laptop or computer for uploading songs.
Sizes and prices include 1GB ($102), 2GB ($121) and 4GB for ($149). Expect to see them make their way to the U.S after their launch in Japan on March 8. Totally cute, but I'm still excited about the fact that the 1GB iPod shuffle only costs $49.

As you can see, this is not your standard walkman by any means. Maybe it's just me, but doesn't this mp3 player resemble a clip-on cell phone?

This sleek 4GB concept-edition player is set to be displayed at the Vivienne Tam flagship store in New York. Hopefully more info about this unique device will be released sooner rather than later!

Vintage Geek: 'Walky' Head Phone Stereo

These days portable music players are smaller than a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

These days portable music players are smaller than a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. But, back in 1984, they were roughly a bagillion times larger and of course accepted those cassette tapes you've been thinking of throwing out. The Toshiba 'Walky' Head Stereo, in other words Walkman, is one of my favorite retro chic players - in part because it's pink and because it reminds me of a time when I carried 5 or 6 mix tapes in my purse.

To quote a friend: "I remember a time when the three most important things in my life were my Walkman, New Kids on the Block tape and my acid-washed vest." Yep, sounds about right. For a comparison photo of the Toshiba Head Stereo and the pink shuffle as well as some fun vintage ads, just read more
