Website of the Day: Take Back My TV

With the Digital TV Transition underway, many people will need to scrap their old television sets for TVs that are capable of receiving a digital signal.

With the Digital TV Transition underway, many people will need to scrap their old television sets for TVs that are capable of receiving a digital signal. What that means is that there will be millions of televisions being replaced and therefore being disposed of.

There's already some great sites to help you recycle your old TV, but I wanted to showcase a great site called Take Back My Button, which is a campaign of the Electronics TakeBack Coalition. This coalition of nonprofits strives to make companies responsible for the recycling of their TVs to help reduce e-waste dumping. Visit Take Back My TV to see if your television manufacturer will take back your TV and to find out how green electronic companies and retailers are.

Disposal of Toxic Products Made Easy (in SF, That Is)

I consider myself a fairly eco-chic kinda gal, but I'm always looking for ways to be greener.

I consider myself a fairly eco-chic kinda gal, but I'm always looking for ways to be greener. Living in San Francisco, I try to utilize all the amazing services that offer to reuse or recycle your old gadgets, but it isn't easy keeping track of which ones take which (batteries, or cell phones or televisions). . . If only it was as simple as mailing your cell phone away to cell phones for soldiers! Thankfully this handy dandy piece of mail arrived at my doorstep the other day. The SF Environment has created the EcoFinder as an easy reference manual for all of us trying to figure out what the best way is to dispose of and recycle our electronics. It's fantastic and going straight on my fridge — check it out below and visit SF Environment to get your very own!

Sony Offers $100 For Your Old Television

If you're expecting Santa to grant your wish for a shiny and new TV, you will probably need to get rid of your old set.

If you're expecting Santa to grant your wish for a shiny and new TV, you will probably need to get rid of your old set. Thanks to Sony's improved take back recycling program, you can now get $100 for your old TV.

How exactly does this work? According to Gizmodo,
this new offer (unlike the take back program) allows you to recycle any TV and is not exclusive to Sony products—cha ching! The hardest part is taking your TV to a Waste Management eCycling center to redeem your credit. Once you get your coupon, you can use it at Sony Style stores, online at SonyStyle.com and through Sony's phone sales service at 1-877-865-SONY. The coupon offer ends March 15th.
