The Meatless Monday Campaign, which is a national health effort aimed at preventing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, has become increasingly popular over the last few years. The vegetarian initiative highlights the fact that the body can't store excess protein, and if you consume more protein than you need, you'll just eliminate it through your urine and put an extra strain on your kidneys to metabolize it. Atkins-smackins, right?

Ready to say sayonara to that steak for the day (or celebrate your everyday vegetarianism) and find out why thousands of civilians and celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Silverstone support the meat-free holiday weekly? Here are some healthy and delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes to inspire you and remind you that you won't miss meat.

Dogs

The Charming Cavalier King Charles

It's no surprise that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are currently one of the desirable breeds out there.

It's no surprise that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are currently one of the desirable breeds out there. Not only are they beautiful dogs with regal shiny coats and big beautiful eyes, they're as sweet as can be! Cavalier King Charles are generally affectionate dogs with friendly dispositions. Most of the time, they are able to do well with other animals.

Wondering how the breed got its noble name? During the 16th century, a small type of spaniel was popular among the aristocracy in England. People believed these dogs could keep fleas away; others even believed that they could prevent forms of stomach illnesses. In any case, their namesake Charles II loved these little guys. It was said, "His Majesty was seldom seen without his little dogs." We can see why! Check out some pics of these royal pups!
