Geek Tip: Leave Sticky Notes For Yourself on the Web

I use the "Stickies" application for Mac more than anyone I know.

I use the "Stickies" application for Mac more than anyone I know. At any given moment, I have at least 10 sticky notes open on my desktop — they're like virtual post-its for remembering everything from my mom's new email address to funny quotes from friends or the day's to-do list. Now, one web start-up is applying the post-it concept to web pages, too. Stickr is a web-based application used with Firefox to leave sticky notes on any website. You can keep them to yourself or share them with friends to comment on content, leave warnings, or just say hello! You can personalize each note with different fonts and colors and drag it around to any part of the screen before saving and sharing.

Geek Tip: Send Yourself an Email Reminder With FollowUpThen

When you have a million things to do at the office, it's easy to forget things you need to remember.

When you have a million things to do at the office, it's easy to forget things you need to remember. Like that proposal you were supposed to review and send back by today. Whoops! You could add a reminder on your calendar, but it's oh so easy to just "dismiss" those Entourage pop-ups, isn't it? Instead, send yourself a follow-up reminder with FollowUpThen. This easy-to-use tool lets you send yourself and/or someone else a follow-up reminder via email just by adding a deadline (i.e; 1day) along with @followupthen.com in the CC or BCC field of your email. FollowUpThen will shoot back a reminder email on the day you specified, making sure you won't forget that important task.

Website of the Day: Memorari

The virtual equivalent of tying a string around your finger, Memorari sends a digital reminder of whatever it is you don't want to forget.

The virtual equivalent of tying a string around your finger, Memorari sends a digital reminder of whatever it is you don't want to forget. You can choose your preferred method of receiving a reminder: text, email, Gchat, AIM, and a few more. Just answer three questions: "When?," "Who?," and "What?" Then Memorari sends your reminder message at the time you select via your preferred delivery method.

I like that you're able to type anything in the text field, so your message can be as specific, cryptic, or silly as you want. And, according to the site's FAQ page, any data is erased after it's sent to you as a reminder, so you don't have to worry that your reminders are being stored somewhere. You can set reminders far into the future, too. Right now the calendar reaches 2011. I've already programmed reminders for all of my friends' birthdays and the day my credit card bill is due — no more excuses for forgetfulness!

OK, if you have not jumped on the Kwiry train yet, you must!

OK, if you have not jumped on the Kwiry train yet, you must! I've already told you how you can send a text to (K-W-I-R-Y) 59479 to remember books, movies, or to-do items and how you can even add products to your Amazon wishlist and update your Netflix queue, well there's more. Kwiry just announced that you can now send a text saying "tivo Gossip Girl" and it will schedule a recording of the next episode to your TiVo.

Additionally, you can text Kwiry for things like Yelp information, including reviews, contact info, etc. And if you really want to go bananas with Kwiry, you can text "contact geekyjill@gmail.com" to email contact info and vCard attachment while on the go, or text "status going to Cindys" and kwiry will update your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts — no word of a lie people. And you thought Google's 411 service was impressive.

I try to stay as virtually organized as I possibly can with my Google Calendar and many other great reminder tools I've found on the Internet. But a girl gets busy, real busy, especially at this time of the year with work, parties, shopping, and traveling. There are times when I remember that I need to do something, but don't have time to add it to my calendar, and that's when a site called Remindr becomes my savior. With the self-explanatory Remindr, you just enter the goods, and it works its magic and does the rest. That wine you were supposed to pick up for the Christmas party tonight? Remindr will give you a handy reminder to stop by the grocery store after work.

Website of the Day: Deadline

I'm not as obsessive about my online calendars all the time as I wish I were — I would never forget about the occasional appointment or date I made on the fly.

I'm not as obsessive about my online calendars all the time as I wish I were — I would never forget about the occasional appointment or date I made on the fly. Even though I use calendars, sometimes you just need really straightforward reminders — which is what Deadline is great for.

For instance, I have a doctor appointment on my calendar, but what I really need is an alert a half hour before I need to leave for that appointment. I just need to add a deadline from the home screen, set the time and date, and make sure I set when I want to be notified by email so that I can get to my appointment on time (I set it to go off a half hour before). No more sheepish calls about why I'm not where I was supposed to be!
