Genius! Multi Lines Extension Cords Are Functional and Fab

How many times have you complained that your cords are too short, your power strip is too far away, or you just don't want a million cables running down the base of your floorboard?
Multi Lines Extension Cord

How many times have you complained that your cords are too short, your power strip is too far away, or you just don't want a million cables running down the base of your floorboard? Plenty, right? OK, so here's one solution: Multi Lines. This extension cord acts as a power strip in that there are multiple plugs you can connect to make the cord as long (or short) as you want. Just plug one line into another to extend the cord, find an electrical outlet, and you're done. The electricity runs through the cable so you don't have to worry about stuffing six plugs into one power brick.

Each pack of Multi Lines comes in three lengths (six, nine, and 16 feet), the option of choosing between three colors (white, pink, or blue), and range in price from $16 to $22 each. While I'm pretty sure I won't be hooking up any tea pots to mine (more like laptop chargers and record players), you can check out more images of the Multi Lines in the slideshow!

Power Strip Concept Puts a Limit to Your Electricity Use

We've talked a lot about vampire power — gadgets and appliances that are turned "off" but suck down electricity just because they're plugged in — and there's one electrical outlet that helps combat wattage use while you're out for the day.

We've talked a lot about vampire power — gadgets and appliances that are turned "off" but suck down electricity just because they're plugged in — and there's one electrical outlet that helps combat wattage use while you're out for the day. But what if you have several gadgets you want to control? Here's an idea — make a power strip with timers in the sockets so you can keep track of how long you actually use an appliance, and save money at the same time. The Wind Up Socket does just that — lets you count down the minutes (like a kitchen egg timer) until your electrical socket switches off.

Plug Into This Cute Robot Power Strip

I love it when someone takes a boring household item that we all need — like a power strip — and turns it into something fun.

I love it when someone takes a boring household item that we all need — like a power strip — and turns it into something fun. Case in point: the Electric Man power strip from Urban Outfitters. This cute robot-shaped power strip has four grounded outlets — one on each of the little guy's appendages. The main power switch is on his side, and you can see whether or not he's powered up by checking the red light above his heart. Add it to the list of cute robot goodies on my wish list!

Would you use this power strip? And in case you missed it, check out the equally cute car power station I found the other day.

Cute and Useful Car Power Station Is Not a Real Coffee Cup

I can't help but smile when I look at this gadget.

I can't help but smile when I look at this gadget. It's cute and funny and perfectly geeky — not to mention totally useful.

The PowerCup On-the-Go Power Supply Cup ($32) is a cheeky portable power source that plugs into your car's power adapter, and fits right into the cup holder. It has two power outlets and a USB port, perfect for charging your gadgets on a road trip.

I love this because it's not clunky like a lot of other car-powered power suppliers, and its shape ensures it'll stay put while you're driving.

Turn Inexpensive Furniture Into All-In-One Charging Stations

I bought this Ikea Aneboda ($40) bedside table over the weekend, and am drafting up plans to turn it into an all-in-one charging station.

I bought this Ikea Aneboda ($40) bedside table over the weekend, and am drafting up plans to turn it into an all-in-one charging station.

I realized after searching and scouring the Internet to track down the best charging station possible, that it probably wouldn't hold everything I wanted to charge, and the ones that might were way out of my price range. I don't see anything that could hold my laptop anyway.

I don't have my plans finished quite yet, but it seems simple to do. Just drill a few round holes in the shelves to allow for cords, one in the back of the pull out drawer for the power strip, and voila! All the cords and plugs will be in the drawer, while I can stream up cords to charge my laptop, cell phone, iPod, camera, DS, and whatever else I can think of to plug in!

Plus, with a new paint job, this charging station isn't just DIY, but it will fit in nicely with the rest of my decor. Have you DIY'd your own charging station?

Eco Geek Tip: Use a Powerstrip With a Breaker

I know it seems like common sense, but if you are looking to save energy and money, plug your gadgets into a power strip with a circuit breaker so you have the ability to flip the switch off instead of draining energy.

I know it seems like common sense, but if you are looking to save energy and money, plug your gadgets into a power strip with a circuit breaker so you have the ability to flip the switch off instead of draining energy. I suggest hooking up devices like your TV and DVR or TiVo to one strip (so they can stay on and record all your favorite shows), but keep everything else on strips that can be turned off whenever you leave the house for an extended period of time.

There's a neat site called MyGreenElectronics that offers a simple energy calculator so you can guesstimate what your electronic use means for your wallet by the minute, day, month, and year.

My apartment is flooded with power cords, extension cords, power bars, and multi-outlet adapters, you name it, I got it.

My apartment is flooded with power cords, extension cords, power bars, and multi-outlet adapters, you name it, I got it. As unaesthetically appealing as they are, I can't seem to find a chic alternative to keeping my larger gadgets like my computer and laptop juiced up. Well now there is an alternative, the WirePod!

Designed by Joris Laarman, the WirePod is the first piece in Artecnica’s Wiremore collection that offers a flexible gray extension cord for all your charging needs. Eubiq's Unique Power Outlet Track

In older homes and buildings it can get really tiresome trying to maneuver your workstations near sparse power outlets.

In older homes and buildings it can get really tiresome trying to maneuver your workstations near sparse power outlets. I feel like I'm the queen of power outlets and multi power plug dividers, so I was pleased to read Eubiq's has designed a system with moveable power outlets on tracks to help rectify this problem. Featured on coolest gadgets, the tracks devices come with multiple outlets along the maximum 3.6 meter that you can adjust to your liking. Add more outlets as you need them and don't worry about child safety as each socket and track grounds any conductive object it touches. Check out the site for pricing and purchasing info.
