Multiple press conferences are kicking off today, so it should be a news-filled Wednesday, indeed! We've already relayed a ton of announcements over the course of the week, and this is what's been dropping so far this morning:

  • LG goes lean — LG revealed its new Optimus Black, the "world's thinnest" smartphone.
  • LG smart TV — LG also announced a sweet-looking app platform for TVs.
  • Polaroid in 3D — Polaroid is releasing its own line of 3D glasses for at-home viewing.
  • Compact Canon — Canon is giving us a few more reasons to want to get behind the lens: a pair of affordable new Powershots.
  • OnStar gets a voice — OnStar announced its new Bluetooth Android app, which reads your Facebook messages to you.

There's even more news after the break.

New and Noteworthy Android Apps: PoGo and Cosmo

It seems there's a new app released daily that can help us either achieve a goal or kill some time.

It seems there's a new app released daily that can help us either achieve a goal or kill some time. I suppose these two new apps could fall under either category. First up, the PoGo Android app. In case any of you are still using your PoGo printers (or are hankering for a new one), things are about to get a lot easier for you. The new 3x4 version PoGo ($156; out this holiday) will link up to the PoGo Android app, letting you snap pics right from your phone, edit, choose a frame, and send your pics to print on the eco-friendly zero ink paper. The size is definitely more old-school Polaroid-like, so your vintage senses will be well taken care of, while your geeky futuristic side can have all the fun.

Want to hear about the spicy new Cosmo app? Then just keep reading.

The Impossible Project's Gorgeously Creepy Monochrome Film

After successfully reintroducing Polaroid to the masses, the Impossible Project's latest new Polaroid product is a new line of film designed to capture especially eerie photographs.

After successfully reintroducing Polaroid to the masses, the Impossible Project's latest new Polaroid product is a new line of film designed to capture especially eerie photographs. The Limited Edition First Flush film produces Polaroid photos in silver-based monochrome hues, with results varying based on light and temperature.

This latest development is an effort to enhance Polaroid's technology instead of simply recreating and replacing Polaroid products. Packs of eight monochrome instant photos are $21.

Polaroid Creating Video Game Controllers, Accessories

Now that Polaroid is back in action — and with Lady Gaga at the creative helm — it isn't wasting any time branching out into new markets.

Now that Polaroid is back in action — and with Lady Gaga at the creative helm — it isn't wasting any time branching out into new markets. According to a report, Polaroid will be creating a line of video game peripherals and accessories, like Wii sensor bars, docks for the Nintendo DS, wireless controllers, and microphone headsets, which will begin rolling out in the UK next month. I'm excited for the Polaroid invasion, but I'm wondering how these accessories will translate the true Polaroid feel. I have a few ideas, and some thoughts about what I'd like to see. Find out what they are after the break.

Turn Any Photo Into a Polaroid With These Magnetic Frames

Sure, Polaroid may be back but that doesn't mean that the nostalgia is over.

Sure, Polaroid may be back but that doesn't mean that the nostalgia is over. The Snapshot Frames turn any picture into a magnetic Polaroid-style photo. The set of five 3 1/2" x 4" magnets is only $10; just slide your photo into the frame to turn it into a Polaroid.

These would make a cute Valentine's Day gift for your sweetie. They're much cooler than most of the geeky picture frames I've featured. The fact that they're magnets makes them even cooler and would be a sweet retro touch to your fridge.

Polaroid's Classic OneStep Gets a Reboot, New Colors

The Impossible Project's goal to bring back Polaroid instant film was a great success for low-tech film lovers, and now Polaroid is rewarding its fans with a newly rebooted OneStep camera called the Pic 1000, which was announced yesterday at CES.

The Impossible Project's goal to bring back Polaroid instant film was a great success for low-tech film lovers, and now Polaroid is rewarding its fans with a newly rebooted OneStep camera called the Pic 1000, which was announced yesterday at CES.

The Pic 1000 will look similar to its retro counterpart, but will come in a range of colors (including a vintage-styled woodgrain) to suit your personal taste. A few of the Pic 1000s were shown off on the CES floor this week, and thankfully the Polaroid 600 color film that is being developed now by the Impossible Project will work just as well with the new cameras as the old originals.

Lady Gaga For Polaroid? Ooh La La!

As if I needed another reason to talk about Lady Gaga, it turns out she's planning to become quite the regular in the tech scene.

As if I needed another reason to talk about Lady Gaga, it turns out she's planning to become quite the regular in the tech scene. In addition to last year's collaboration with Beats by Dr. Dre to produce the in-ear headphones seen in her "Bad Romance" video, she's the newest creative director for Polaroid! The film and camera company just announced she'll be serving as creative director for a specialty line of Polaroid Imaging products. She'll be speaking on behalf of the company at CES on Thursday morning. "Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and to as my father puts it — finally, have a real job," she said in a press release.

Speaking of Beats by Dr. Dre, Billboard magazine is reporting that Lady Gaga will also be making an announcement related to the line of headphones. A new design, perhaps? While spokespeople for the trade show say she's not scheduled to perform, I'm hoping that she characteristically surprises us with a performance!

80's Polaroid "Cool Cam" Is Cool Indeed

I freaked out when I saw this rare hot pink and neon yellow Polaroid 600 Cool Cam on Etsy, 'cause it's retro in the best way.

I freaked out when I saw this rare hot pink and neon yellow Polaroid 600 Cool Cam on Etsy, 'cause it's retro in the best way. We see plenty of old timey gadgets popping up in our Vintage Geek group, but never one this bodacious. Coming with a black carrying case (although I don't know why you'd want to cover this bad boy up), it's priced right at $88 — which I think is the year it's taking me back to. Where's my Electric Youth perfume?
