iPad 2 Launch

I was lucky enough to snatch up an iPad 2 on Friday, and by the looks of the lines outside the flagship Apple store here in SF, there are probably a lot of you who weren't as fortunate. According to a new report, the iPad 2 sold out during its inaugural weekend, selling 70 percent of units to new buyers. That means Apple could have moved upwards of 1 million iPad 2s this weekend alone, including in-store sales and online orders (which are now backordered three to four weeks).

Last week, nearly half of you said you planned to pick up an iPad over launch weekend. Initial reports say that sales were very strong, with many stores selling out of devices and Apple's website now reporting delays of three to four weeks after ordering an iPad online.

While I didn't pick one up for myself (I'm going to try and stick it out with the original. . . for now), I did go with a friend to pick up his new toy as not to miss out on the fun. The "fun" turned out to be a two-hour wait at a Best Buy in San Francisco, and when we got to the front of the line, the only WiFi-only option left was a 64GB white model. While he originally planned on buying a 32GB black iPad, he turned to me and said, "I'm getting a 64 gig white iPad, aren't I?" I cheerfully agreed. And even though the guy in line behind us tried to talk him out of it by telling him the white seemed "so girly" (it was the last WiFi only iPad in stock), my friend did in fact end up with a 64GB white iPad.

Let the iPad 2 madness begin! Apple's second-generation tablet goes on sale next Friday, and if you think you'll have to queue up in long lines at the Apple store, think again — there are a number of locations that will be selling the iPad 2 on launch day. Get the entire list below!

• Sam's Club and Walmart — According to a tip, 9 to 5 Mac has learned that the iPad 2 will be sold both at Sam's Club and Walmart locations on March 11.
• Best Buy — Already advertising on its website, you can pick up an iPad 2 at Best Buy on launch day.
• Apple Stores — If you want the full Apple experience on iPad 2 day, you should head to an Apple store, where there's sure to be a lot of pomp and circumstance.

No word yet on if AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores will be carrying the iPad 2 at launch, but we'll update this post as we learn more!
