iHome Jumping on the AirPlay Train Early

After last week's Apple event, I've been pretty excited to test out the upcoming AirPlay feature on the iPad and new Apple TV.

After last week's Apple event, I've been pretty excited to test out the upcoming AirPlay feature on the iPad and new Apple TV. Now, iHome has me even more pumped with its new line of AirPlay-enabled speakers that are coming this holiday.

The iHome AirPlay speakers will presumably connect to your home's WiFi signal, allowing you to stream your tunes via your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch from anywhere in your house. Details about the systems are scarce now, but I'm sure like all iHome products, they should provide seamless integration with your various Apple iDevices.

Dock Your iPod on Your Keyboard

How have I never seen one of these keyboards before!?

How have I never seen one of these keyboards before!? The iConnect Media Keyboard ($150) comes in Mac and PC versions and has a dedicated spot for your iPod or iPhone to dock. Both keyboards are designed with your computer in mind; the Mac version is constructed in silver and white, the PC in black.

Each features a sliding iPod dock and two USB ports for connecting your mouse or other device. Special dedicated media keys allow you to control your music or movies directly from the keyboard. There is also a built-in wrist rest. Plus, when it's docked, your iPod will charge and sync with your computer. I'm a fan of this keyboard — the design is great, and it keeps your device easily accessible while still connected.

An Alarm Clock/iPod Speaker Dock From iHome

The iPhone-as-alarm trend continues, this time with the iHome iA5 alarm clock ($100).

The iPhone-as-alarm trend continues, this time with the iHome iA5 alarm clock ($100). Similar to the recently released iLuv model, the alarm clock/iPod dock is made to work with an app on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Download the free iHome app from the App Store containing an alarm clock, weather forecast, statistics (including average alarm time and average number of times you hit the snooze button), and quick links to Facebook and Twitter.

The dock itself has a built-in alarm, so it works even if your iPhone isn't attached — but it has a time sync button to make sure both clocks display the proper time when your device is attached. You can even program the snooze button for up to 29 minutes between alarms. While the dock works best with the iPhone/iPod app, it will also work with your other iPods, too.

6 Sleek iPod Alarm Clocks

Wakey wakey! There's nothing I despise more than being jerked awake from a deep sleep by a loud alarm.
6 Sleek iPod Alarm Clocks That Won't Leave You Hating the AM

Wakey wakey! There's nothing I despise more than being jerked awake from a deep sleep by a loud alarm. Who invented those anyway? Instead of jumping out of your skin every time that buzzer starts, think about this: you could be waking up to your favorite song every morning. I know — mind blowing.

Check out some of my picks for sleek and sane alarm clocks that double as iPod players. At least now you won't break your snooze button.

Safe Tunes for Your Bike: iH8B

I like riding my bike and I like listening to music, but have never really felt comfortable combining the two.

I like riding my bike and I like listening to music, but have never really felt comfortable combining the two. I rely on my ears as well as my eyes to stay aware of my surroundings and cranking up my iPod while biking just doesn't seem like a good idea.

The new Bike to Beach Bicycle Speaker for iPod® (iH8B), made by iHome is a creative solution to this musical dilemma.

Here's how it works. You place your iPod in the impact resistant, polycarbonate case and mount it to the lower crossbar of your bike. It has little speakers on the ends of it so you don't even need to wear headphones - that way you can hear your music and also hear what's going on around you. Then you mount the wireless remote control to your handlebars. Now you can easily skip past Gwen Stephani's "Hollaback Girl" when you're really in the mood for Kelly Clarkson's Never Again without having to futz with your iPod. Plus it's water and impact resistant - two very necessary features when it comes to your bike.

These speakers for your bike only cost $99, but they're not quite ready to be shipped yet. You can order one straight from iHome though, and be the first on your bike path to have one.

Hyatt Hotels To Get the ' i ' Makeover

Out with the old and in with the new!

Out with the old and in with the new! Hyatt Hotels & Resorts are catching up with the times by planning to add iPod-ready iHome clock radio speaker systems to guest rooms in its U.S., Canada and Caribbean properties.

With nearly 70 million iPod's already sold worldwide, is it far fetched to think that iPod speakers should be a mandatory room accessory alongside a television and hair dryer? Hyatt has also announced a new digital download music pilot program in which “individual properties will offer unique, destination-specific music collections.” This program and its properties are set to be integrated across North America throughout 2007.

Kudos to the Hyatt for trading up ghetto blasters for iPod accessories - this seems to be a growing trend.
