Fox Restricts Next-Day Viewing on Hulu: Why You Shouldn't Freak Out Just Yet

Fox announced yesterday that it would be restricting its content on Hulu, forcing viewers to wait a whole eight days to see the latest episode of their favorite shows, rather than getting the goods next day.

Fox announced yesterday that it would be restricting its content on Hulu, forcing viewers to wait a whole eight days to see the latest episode of their favorite shows, rather than getting the goods next day. Although at first it may seem like the content buffet is over, there's no reason to freak out and get cable if you've already cancelled your subscription in favor of online streaming options — you can still watch Fox shows next day if you're a Hulu Plus subscriber.

Though the implications of the Fox restriction could spell bad news for streaming services everywhere in the future, especially if other networks jump on the bandwagon, I'm sticking it out. $8 a month for Hulu Plus, and $10 a month for Netflix and the occasional purchase on Amazon or iTunes usually does the trick for mild to moderate TV watchers, even if you do have to watch shows a day later than all your friends.

Women Like Netflix More Than Hulu Plus

A recent study from Mashwork shows that women use Netflix more than Hulu Plus.

A recent study from Mashwork shows that women use Netflix more than Hulu Plus. According to the study, 48 percent of female respondents use Netflix, while only 24 percent use Hulu Plus. Though there are pros and cons of each (including catalogues, commercials, and quality) both services truly allow TV and movie fans to save a few bucks on a cable subscription since you can get your favorite shows on your computer, mobile device, and even gaming consoles. In fact, 51 percent of study respondents (men and women) say they use both Netflix and Hulu Plus and are planning on cutting the cord on cable.

Below, we'll cover the benefits to each service, and be sure to tell us which you use in the comments below!

Hulu Plus

Hulu Plus is a subscription service ($8 a month) that lets you watch Hulu content via an Internet connection, WiFi, and 3G on your:

  • iPhone and Android devices
  • iPod Touch
  • iPad
  • PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
  • Samsung Internet TVs and Blu-ray players
  • Mac or PC

Get current episodes of shows and access to a huge library of past seasons and series. It's like the Hulu you know now, only with more ways to watch. Although you pay a monthly subscription to get access to TV shows, you will have to wait until the day after the show airs on TV to watch (sometimes longer), and sit through a block of two commercials a few times during your show. You can also watch select movies via Hulu Plus, and even behind-the-scenes clips from your favorite shows.

Hulu Plus Price Drops to $8/Month; Will You Pay?

Hulu Plus, the subscription-based television and movie service, has lowered its price.

Hulu Plus, the subscription-based television and movie service, has lowered its price. When the service launched over the Summer, a subscription cost $10 per month; now it will cost $8, the same price as a streaming Netflix subscription.

While Hulu isn't releasing its current number of subscribers, many speculate that the service isn't all that popular. In fact, last month we heard rumors that the price would drop to $5 per month in an effort to woo more customers.

The last time I asked, most of you said you weren't using the service but might consider using it if the price was right. Would you be willing to try Hulu Plus for $8 per month?

Are You Using Hulu Plus?

Hulu Plus launched over the Summer with the hopes of creating a profitable revenue stream.

Hulu Plus launched over the Summer with the hopes of creating a profitable revenue stream. It was to provide a more thorough catalog of content, including full seasons of your favorite shows (rather than a limited number of the past several episodes). At $10 a month, I was expecting a lot, but apparently I'm not the only one who was a bit underwhelmed.

I got a chance to check out Hulu Plus earlier this Fall, and although it does enable you to watch content on your mobile devices, I'm not sure it's worth the cash, especially with all the other (free) online streaming sites there are today. Now, Hulu is considering lowering the price for Hulu Plus to $5 a month. The price cut is aimed at enticing more subscribers, and it's surely an easier pill to swallow, considering what you get. Are you currently using Hulu Plus? If so, share your experiences below!

CBS Has Its Eye on Hulu

The list of reasons to love Hulu grows longer by the day — free TV shows online, Hulu Plus on my PS3 (just to name a few) — and now the only network that doesn't have a presence on Hulu may be making a move.

The list of reasons to love Hulu grows longer by the day — free TV shows online, Hulu Plus on my PS3 (just to name a few) — and now the only network that doesn't have a presence on Hulu may be making a move. In an interview conducted earlier this week, CBS Chief Executive Les Moonves said that the network is in talks with Hulu to create a subscription service that brings CBS shows online "without hurting the mother ship." Meaning, it's likely going to cost you a few bucks.

Hulu Plus costs $10 a month, and gives you access to content via your phone and gaming console, but honestly, I'd love to cancel my outrageously-priced cable service in favor of streaming my favorite shows from anywhere online for a nominal fee, and I think that's the consensus from most of my peers. Do you agree, or do you prefer to watch your shows chained to your TV?
