Use KwiClick to View Videos, Links, Maps In One Window

When it comes to browsing on the web, I like to think that I've conquered the quick multisearch method.

When it comes to browsing on the web, I like to think that I've conquered the quick multisearch method. That was, until I found out about KwiClick, a new Firefox extension that makes web searches. . . that much faster (and easier).

The best way I can describe KwiClick is by having you visualize all of those times you need a web page — to see search results, to view a link for a YouTube video, to post something on Twitter — and imagine being able to do all of those things from the page you're currently looking at. Those 50 tabs you have open? Yeah, KwiClick should help eliminate many of those tabs.

You can also search sites like Wikipedia, Twitter, and YouTube and input addresses to instantly view maps — from one web page.

Geek Tip: Tweet From Your Firefox Address Bar

It may seem like overkill, but I have more than a few ways to access Twitter: signing in to Twitter online, using my iPhone, as well as signing in on my BlackBerry.

It may seem like overkill, but I have more than a few ways to access Twitter: signing in to Twitter online, using my iPhone, as well as signing in on my BlackBerry. But still, I'm always on the lookout for a faster and easier way to tweet. Sometimes, your tweet just can't wait. For this reason, I'm now a big fan of Twitterbar.

As an extension to your Firefox browser, Twitterbar couldn't be easier to use: just type your tweet into your address bar, then hit the Twitter icon to post to your account. Downloading is free, but you will have to allow the third-party app to access your Twitter account. So next time you're surfing around at your desk and an earthquake hits, you'll be the first to post about it. Besides, being first is a geek's ultimate goal anyway, isn't it?

Do you ever see something during a TV show that you wish you could easily find later? If you're ever on the hunt for a snip-it of a video clip, VideoSurf has got you covered. They will help you find those specific scenes with certain objects or people, so you don't have to watch the entire clip to find what you were looking for. Geek Tip: Send Links Without Page Jumping

Jumping pages wastes time.

Jumping pages wastes time. You know, like when you see a link you want to send to a pal, you have to copy the link, open a new tab, sign into your email, paste the link, etc. You jump from one page to another, hence page jumping. So if you're the type to send a lot of links (and are a Firefox user) you may want to check out the Email This add-on.

Email This allows you to highlight the text you want to send, click the toolbar button on your browser, then from a pop-up window, Email This will automatically populate the title, address, and highlighted text into a message so you can send your link and be on your way without leaving your page. It's saved me quite a bit of time, since I love sending links. I bet you would have never guessed that about me, right?

GoogleTube: The Best of Both Worlds

There's only one thing that GoogleTube does, but it does it very well: this Firefox extension adds a YouTube icon to your Google results so you can watch videos in the same window.

There's only one thing that GoogleTube does, but it does it very well: this Firefox extension adds a YouTube icon to your Google results so you can watch videos in the same window. No more opening multiple tabs, using the back button or getting lost within the many channels of YouTube.

Just click on the YouTube icon that shows up next to video results and a small, floating window pops out so you can watch it right there on the page. Sweet and simple.

Keep Up With Your Social Life by Adding Yoono to Firefox

Seriously, keeping up with all my social networks could be a full-time job.

Seriously, keeping up with all my social networks could be a full-time job. Between Twittering my latest obsession, to updating my Facebook profile, I feel as though I should be getting paid to network. Oh wait. . .

So it would be insanely awesome to have just one place to go to keep up with the on-goings of my pals, get instant updates on the latest Tweets, and even IM my friends. Dreams, meet reality. His name is Yoono. Yoono is a free Firefox add on that lets you do all that in one little sidebar. Plus, it's pretty easy on the eyes.

Geek Tip: Get the Retail Me Not Firefox Extension

Since we're shifting into holiday shopping overdrive, sales, saving money, and spending seem to top our conversations virtually every day.

Since we're shifting into holiday shopping overdrive, sales, saving money, and spending seem to top our conversations virtually every day. So I must insist that you add the Retail Me Not extension to your Firefox browser.

It's going to help you do all three: save by alerting you when there is a sale or discount available, and help you spend less than you would if just browsing online stores till all hours of the night looking for a deal. It's free to add-on, but will be worth its weight in gold once you tally up your receipts at the end of the month and see how much you've saved.

And don't forget if you're looking for a bargain, you can always check out ShopStyle's Sale Habit, where you'll find tons of deals from all across the Internet!

My devotion to Google Reader has been well-documented here, and I relish any new opportunity to get more of it (though I'd have to be a superhuman to read everything in my reader daily).

My devotion to Google Reader has been well-documented here, and I relish any new opportunity to get more of it (though I'd have to be a superhuman to read everything in my reader daily).

Read It Later is a free Firefox extension that just adds little empty check marks to stories in your feeds, and when you come to a post you want to read but don't have time to, simply click the check marks.

All checked stories are then saved in a separate reading list — either from Read It Later's site, in your RSS Reader, or for reading offline later!

Have Internet ADD? Use YouPlayer to Watch Videos in Sidebar

I have this thing where I can't always watch videos on the Internet when they come my way — and not because I'm not allowed to at work, but because I don't feel like I can take the time to focus on just one video.

I have this thing where I can't always watch videos on the Internet when they come my way — and not because I'm not allowed to at work, but because I don't feel like I can take the time to focus on just one video. Turns out "my thing" isn't so weird, because some kind soul made YouPlayer, a Firefox extension that lets you watch videos in your sidebar!

Once installed, all you have to do is drag and drop the URL or your search results for the video into the player.

With YouPlayer, not only can you multitask — i.e., checking email while a funny vid plays — you can also keep them in your sidebar to return to later, so you don't have to bookmark them or remember the site or YouTube search term when you get around to showing your friends later!
