Ecard Save the Dates — Cool or Tacky?

Ecards have come a long way, but is it a faux pas to send wedding correspondence via email?

Ecards have come a long way, but is it a faux pas to send wedding correspondence via email? While most couples still opt for paper wedding invitations, many are choosing to send save the date cards and invitations to less formal wedding-related celebrations via online services like Paperless Post and Evite, pictured.

Sending ecards is cheap, requires no postage, and saves paper; plus, you get an automatic count of the RSVPs. But guests still love opening wedding-related mail, just as handwritten thank-you notes seem more authentic than emailed ones. What's your take on email save the dates?

Today Only: Free Card Day From Sincerely

Happy Worldwide Free Card Day, iPhone users!

Happy Worldwide Free Card Day, iPhone users! What's that? You didn't know about this March 27 holiday? Sign into your Sincerely account (the company behind Postagram and PopBooth) where you'll find 10 credits until midnight PST to send one free card with any of their partner apps through your iPhone or iPad.

The Sincerely partners are third-party photography apps that feature the "Send Postcard" button. It's a tough decision selecting just which photography app to use of the 20+ available in this promotion. We're liking the abstract randomized images from Decim8 ($1) and the bright colors of the Purikura-style Mr. Chiizu Plus app (free). Which app will you use for your free card?

Send a Quick Greeting With One of These 19 Ecard Sites and Card Apps

Handwritten cards are always appreciated, but if you've forgotten to pick up a batch for the holidays, sending an ecard today might be your last hope for sending well wishes this season.

Handwritten cards are always appreciated, but if you've forgotten to pick up a batch for the holidays, sending an ecard today might be your last hope for sending well wishes this season. Let your friends and family know you're thinking about them by shooting off a few ecards today (or whenever you get the urge to say hello).

  1. GroupCard — Want to personalize a thank-you card from your whole family? This site features an electronic pass-around that's accomplished by just emailing the card to the people who need to sign it. Easy as pie.
  2. MushyGushy — Upload photos and cut and place your heads onto awesome video animations! It's like Elf Yourself without the hats.
  3. Postcard.FM — Lets you put together any picture and any song (just upload each file), slap in a message and an email address, and your recipients get a custom card!
  4. Someecards — It's hard not to get addicted to this hilarious site with wacky, cheeky ecards. The site is known for juxtaposing vintage-y images with witty and racy messages. Not your grandma's ecard site.

For the rest of my ecard suggestions (there are lots!), after the break.

Savvy Tip: Be and Save Green With E-Cards

E-cards are great because you can save money and be environmentally friendly by not wasting paper.

E-cards are great because you can save money and be environmentally friendly by not wasting paper. You may think that sending cards through the Internet loses the personal touch, but I find that the e-cards of today are so interactive and creative that they are really enjoyable to read. I would even say that some e-cards are even better than your standard paper cards, because there's no way a piece of paper can convey the type of humor a video can. Here are two of my favorite e-card sites to visit:

  • Hallmark: People have been giving and receiving Hallmark cards for as long as I can remember. The bonus is that Hallmark now gives you the option of sending free e-cards to people. They have such a great selection and some truly unique interactive features. You don't have to pay any money to send the cards, but if you want access to a wider collection, you'll have to pay about $10 per year. There's really no need to subscribe, because the free cards are really great. One thing I like about Hallmark.com is that it doesn't spam you with pop-up ads, and the layout of the site is very clean.
  • JibJab: This is definitely a crowd favorite with my friends. I tried it when it first came out (the service was free back then), and all of us howled with laughter to see a cutout of our friends' faces on tiny bodies doing weird dances or skits. The only downside is you need to pay a subscription fee of $1 a month. But if you pay the fee, you'll be blown away by what you'll be able to do with these cards. Your Mad Men-crazy friend will love you if you place her into a scene with Don Draper on a Jib Jab card. Check out this hilarious JibJab card of High School Musical starring Obama and Hillary Clinton:

Valentine's Day

Send a Personalized Evalentine With Google Maps

The

The big day is here, and if you're finding yourself short on time to pick up a mushy stock card from the drug store, you could send a sweet and personalized evalentine to your love to remind them of a special location you both share instead. Thanks to Google Maps, it's super easy to Map Your Valentine.

Just enter your valentine's email address, a location (some ideas may be where you met, where you went on your first date, where he proposed, etc.), and a message to seal the deal. Google will deliver a cute heart-shaped evalentine with your location and message (like you see here). Somehow, you can always count on Google to be on top of the holidays.

Send a Gorgeous Digital Flower to Your Valentine

With so many electronic greeting options, there's no excuse for not sending well-wishes to friends and loved ones this Valentine's Day.

With so many electronic greeting options, there's no excuse for not sending well-wishes to friends and loved ones this Valentine's Day. In lieu of physical flowers, send a beautiful, blooming digital Love Blossom.

First, choose the bouquet pattern you'd like to send (signing in via Facebook or Twitter will unlock more pattern options). Then enter your recipient's information to send them a gorgeous, interactive bouquet to be delivered on Valentine's Day. Bouquet designs were inspired by Mulberry fabric prints, and are completely stunning.
