Samsung Devices Now Include Dropbox Integration and 50GB Free Storage

Integration with cloud storage service Dropbox will now come standard on Samsung flagship WiFi-enabled devices, including cameras and TVs.

Integration with cloud storage service Dropbox will now come standard on Samsung flagship WiFi-enabled devices, including cameras and TVs. After activating Dropbox, Samsung users will receive 50 GB of free storage for two years (crazy!) vs. the standard 2 GB that users typically get when they sign up for a free Dropbox account.

Samsung cameras will auto-upload images to Dropbox, and file sharing will be available on Samsung Smart TVs through the AllShare Play application. With more data moving toward the cloud and more WiFi-enabled gadgets available on the market, communication between devices is easier than ever, and we can only expect more cloud integration in the future.

How To: Send Large Digital Files

The convenience of USB drives and burning CDs only go so far.

The convenience of USB drives and burning CDs only go so far. When you need to send large pictures, videos, or documents immediately, these relatively antiquated solutions just don't go the distance. Large file sharing requires the extra power of web services that send multi-MB data in a flash. Though there are dozens of file sharing sites available on the web, these are the ones we find to be the easiest and fastest solutions.

  • WeTransfer — It's as simple as adding files (up to 2GB), enter your email address, then your recipient's, and that's it. WeTransfer is free and requires no registration, making sending big files as painless as possible. They'll even send you a receipt once the recipient has successfully downloaded the file.
  • Adobe SendNow — For $20 a year, send multiple files at once, up to 2GB, and the service provides a confirmation that the file was received, so you're not fretting from your side of the Internet. An optional desktop app is available to easily drag and drop files to share. Plus, get up to 20GB of storage with an account too.
  • More mega file sharers after the break.

Mobile Dropbox Is Now Photo Friendly

File-hosting service Dropbox isn't just a place to store basic files anymore — it's now a place to view them in a beautiful setting too.

File-hosting service Dropbox isn't just a place to store basic files anymore — it's now a place to view them in a beautiful setting too. This week, the company rolled out a new gallery view in the mobile version of its website and the latest update of Dropbox for Android. In the new format, tapping on a photo shows the image in full screen, and swiping displays the next photo in the gallery.

View the gallery feature by tapping on the Dropbox icon and selecting Photos in your mobile browser. In our test, the full-sized photos looked best in Google Chrome for iOS. Dropbox's new photo-friendly feature isn't available for iPhone yet, but we'll let you know when it arrives.

A little extra from Dropbox: if you need more space for photos and you're a university student, earn free storage by signing up for The Great Dropbox Space Race.

This week, Dropbox released the Blackberry app version of its file-sharing service as well as updates to its apps that were already available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Dropbox allows users to sync files across devices, making them accessible from any location.

Having mobile access to files stored on your computer is definitely convenient; you can view any files that you uploaded to your Dropbox on your phone, send photos from your smartphone to your Dropbox, or send your friends a link to a file so they can access it while you're on the go. You can even stream music and video that you've got in your Dropbox.
