The BBC announced today proposals to open their vast archive of TV programming for digital purchase. Currently called Project Barcelona, it would give viewers worldwide access to shows long lost in the digital vault for a "relatively modest" fee. Since the BBC is a British public service, this move must first be approved by the the BBC Trust.

This means if — we hope when — the online store begins, we'll have access to the years of Doctor Who long neglected. Imagine a world where vintage daleks can be viewed on demand from the convenience of a laptop!

What's a week without another photo app launch? Today's launch, Photogram, is already proving an addictive solution for sharing memories.

The founders bill the app as a go-to, photo-sharing option for new parents. Users can upload four images, crop a photo to focus on a pearly smile, select a theme to wrap up those photos (we're partial to Aldebaran Prime), and send to a recipient via email, Facebook, or Twitter with a brief message. The user-friendly dashboard allowed us to send along a four-image message to a co-worker in no time.

Photogram is free, but you can choose to purchase additional themes beyond the parent/grandparent-friendly designs for 99 cents from independent artists, who will receive a share of the revenue.

Update: Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Network users' personal information has been compromised (including names, addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, and email accounts), so be sure you take the necessary steps to protect yourself from phishing scams, change all of your passwords, and alert your banks for potential fraud.

You may have noticed by now that the PlayStation Network is down. There's no time frame as to when it will be back up and running, and Sony is still unclear as to the nature of the "external intrusion." Another thing Sony is unsure of: whether or not your credit card numbers have been stolen during the hack and subsequent outage.

Keeping your credit clean is important, so having a hacker go wild in your name could spell trouble for you down the line. I asked credit expert Emily Co of SavvySugar what gamers can do to protect themselves while Sony investigates the outage. Here are three ways you can keep your credit safe from possible fraud:

• Monitor charges: The most basic thing you can do is to keep an eye on credit card charges. If you see any suspicious activity going on then it's time to call to your bank or credit card company.
• Give banks a heads up: Be proactive and give your bank or credit card company a heads up on the situation. This way, your bank knows to be on the lookout for suspicious charges, and you'll be protected if things do go awry. Pro tip: it's best to use a credit card for all online charges (verses a debit card), since credit cards offer the most protection against fraud.

Although you can get free college-level classes through iTunes U online (which just coincidentally hit a big milestone — 300 million downloads!), if you are hitting the books at a physical school this year, you have an opportunity to get ahead of the curve with free downloads through the iBookstore.

Starting today through Aug. 30, Kaplan (the publisher of many leading study guides and aids) is giving away free downloads to over 90 of its most popular test prep guides and titles via the iBookstore. As you know, you can view the titles on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, so no matter how you roll digitally, you should be good to go for your entrance exams and finals. Want to browse the selection? Head to the iBookstore and search "Kaplan."

You already check in to places you're visiting and have plenty of ways to rate your favorite locations, but there's something missing in your social networking life — entertainment. How do you check in to let people know you're watching your favorite show, or chatting about a particular celebrity (ahem, Lindsay Lohan)? You can't do that on Foursquare, but you can on GetGlue.
