7 Times It's Perfectly Acceptable to Use Caps Lock

Today is the first of two INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAYS a year, and in honor of the VERY LOUD (and somewhat controversial) HOLIDAY, I've rounded up seven situations where it's completely acceptable to use caps lock.

Today is the first of two INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAYS a year, and in honor of the VERY LOUD (and somewhat controversial) HOLIDAY, I've rounded up seven situations where it's completely acceptable to use caps lock. Cause you know, sometimes you just need to.

  1. When your favorite sports team wins. Or heads to the postseason: GO GIANTS!
  2. To accentuate ONE word in a sentence, especially on Twitter or another occasion where italics are unavailable: Are you kidding me? Double Rainbow is the BEST viral video ever.
  3. Any reference to major WIN or FAIL: That bird video on PetSugar was a huge WIN.
  4. Three-letter abbreviations: OMG, WTF, FML, etc: OMG how is it possible that Lindsay Lohan is headed to court again?

See the rest of my acceptable caps lock situations AFTER THE BREAK.

How to Turn on Your iPhone's Caps Lock

Within our Geek Community lives a wealth of knowledge.

Within our Geek Community lives a wealth of knowledge. I had never realized how much I needed this tip until Community member suziryder messaged me with it yesterday. It's simple, yet overlooked — how to turn on your iPhone's caps lock! She says:

Go to Settings, then General, then Keyboard. Switch "Enable caps lock" to on. Then, whenever you're using the keyboard, double tap the shift key to turn on caps lock (the shift key will turn blue).

Thanks for the tip, suziryder! Do you have a great tip that you want to share? Post it in our iPhone Tips group, BlackBerry Tips group, or just send me a message! Your great tips could get you featured on GeekSugar, and help out our community of geeks.

You know how sometimes your caps lock key is on and you'll accidentally type a URL into the search bar in all caps? I do it all the time, and the browser always directs me to the site, and corrects the URL, displaying it in its normal lower case. Well, there are some cases where this leave-it-be mentality doesn't work. Find out more after the break.
