Is This Arcade Game Real or Fake?

Last night's episode of Bones was a gamer's dream — the show centered on the murder of a championship arcade game player, and a ton of the scenes were filmed in an old-school style arcade.

Last night's episode of Bones was a gamer's dream — the show centered on the murder of a championship arcade game player, and a ton of the scenes were filmed in an old-school style arcade. It had me all nostalgic for my younger days!

The game, which was invented just for this episode, was called Punky Pong, and you can actually play it online. The idea of creating a real game for a TV show murder got me wondering how well you know your real arcade game titles. So I took the liberty of inventing this game to test your gamer skills. Choose real or fake for each title and test your gamer cred.

Get Your Retro Game On With Pac-Man and Atari Controllers

Although I can keep up with the best of them when it comes to modern warfare games like Gears of War and Halo, being the vintage geek that I am, I can't help but hold my favorite old-school arcade games close to my heart.

Although I can keep up with the best of them when it comes to modern warfare games like Gears of War and Halo, being the vintage geek that I am, I can't help but hold my favorite old-school arcade games close to my heart. So even though I can't find Galaga at an arcade within a five-mile walking radius of my apartment (I'd go pretty far to drop a few quarters in that baby), I could play right at home with these Pac-Man and Atari game controllers.

These all-in-one controllers hook right up to your TV and provide hours of arcade gaming entertainment (they each include 10 games or more) for a mere $40. Which, let's face it, would be less than I'd drop at my local Pizza Palace arcade during any given month in the '90s.

Every Geek's Dream: Tabletop Pac Man and Galaga Arcade

If there was space in my apartment for a full arcade system, I'd scour eBay in a heartbeat.

If there was space in my apartment for a full arcade system, I'd scour eBay in a heartbeat. But since there isn't, this Tabletop Pac Man and Galaga Arcade from Brookstone will do just fine.

Coming stocked with the 25th anniversary edition of Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, and Galaga, you can relive your youth in the comfort of your home, and even in your PJs if you want. Hey, I won't judge.

Even better? You won't have to spend every last quarter of your allowance feeding your local pizza joint's arcade room. So really, you'll probably save some money by having your own system anyway, right? Sure, the price is kinda steep at two grand, but really, how much is your youth worth? Exactly.

Geek Out: Video Game Arcade Date Memories

I'm tingling for tonight's return of How I Met Your Mother — even though I'm most psyched to see what happens with Barney and Robin (remember his geeky reaction to their one night stand?), I'm also curious to see if Stella accepts Ted's marriage proposal.

From the looks of this photo, all I can say is that if they're in a video game arcade, all signs point to yes! Video game arcades remain for me, the most romantic places ever. As a youngun, my first dates (or casual hangouts, if someone was too scared to ask specifically for a date) were at arcades, because it was one of the few parent-approved places you could go as a pre-teen.

Once inside, things got awesomer: you played adrenaline-pumping games together, cheered each other on at shoot-'em-up games, and if things went really well, you rode in those two-seater "ride to Mars" games. So tell me: do you have any old video game arcade date memories?

Retro Gamer: Best Arcade Games Ever!

Classic Arcade Games of the 80s

Since we seem to be taking it back to the old school this week, I might as well toss in another favorite of mine besides all the mixed tapes and pagers and boomboxes — arcade games. You remember those, yeah?

If I wasn't spending hours in my towns' arcade (and dropping what seemed like hundreds in quarters) every week, then I was either deathly ill or my parents had dragged me along on a family vacation. Seriously, there was no stopping me.

Check out my all time favorite arcade games in this totally retro geek slideshow. Which old-timey arcade game was your favorite?

Why Aren't American Arcades More Fun?

Tokyomango - a site that offers everything one might want to know about the "birth city of Godzilla, Gundam, all-you-can-eat shabu shabu and panty vending machines" - recently featured this great photo of its editor rocking out to a dog walking video game.

Here's more:

This is arguably the most challenging arcade game I have ever played. Much more so than Beatmania or DDR (j/k, I so don't play DDR) or Street Fighter II. Basically you have to walk on a treadmill while holding this white dog's leash. Walk too fast, and he'll get tired. Walk too slow, and he'll get bored. And when obstacles like the neighborhood bully dog or a oncoming car shows up on the screen, you better steer clear! If you mess up, your dog dies.

While I know a couple of animal lovers that would likely go hog wild over the possible dog fatality, I love that this isn't a "shoot 'em up" or dance kind of game. Okay, so I just want to say I walked my dog in an arcade. Can you blame me?
