G.O.B. Tampons: Made For Women by Republican Men

This past weekend's Saturday Night Live made us laugh out loud with its commercial for G.O.B.

This past weekend's Saturday Night Live made us laugh out loud with its commercial for G.O.B. Tampons, feminine products designed by the people who know women's bodies best: the "gentlemen of the Republican party." The ad lampoons the recent gaffes of male members of the GOP in regards to women's health, notably Todd Akin's remarks that "legitimate rape" victims can't get pregnant. But as ridiculous as the skit seems, it highlights the fact that the majority of our country's lawmakers making decisions about women's bodies are men — such as when earlier this year, Congress convened a panel on contraception that didn't include a single woman.

So watch the faux commercial now, and let's make sure there never comes a day when 60-plus-year-old conservative men design tampons that insert into our butts.

Meet Mr. Fifty Shades: E.L. James's Hubby Niall Leonard

Is this the man who inspired Christian Grey?

Is this the man who inspired Christian Grey? No, says Niall Leonard — husband to Fifty Shades of Grey erotic novelist E.L. James — in an interview with CNN. Niall said, "I'm really happy not to be Christian Grey, because that guy's a mess." But he noted that his wife of 20-plus years does have a little Ana Steele in her (or rather, the other way around), saying, "I see my wife in the emails that they exchange. That's very much my wife's amazing ability to flirt via email." Also a writer (his debut crime novel Crusher goes on sale in Europe and Asia this week), Niall explained that he was more of a proofreader for E.L. than an editor. He added that he tried giving her writing input, but their "approaches are completely different." And while he appreciates her writing and storytelling, he's honest about the erotic book series appealing to a specific sex: "It works for women. Men — not always."

E.L. and Niall have two teenage sons together, who Niall admits get teased for their mom's steamy best-seller, but "deep down" are very proud of her. Niall also squashed any rumors that they have an "adventurous lifestyle" à la Ana and Christian, noting that they are just a regular family. Watch the video interview with CNN below.

A Romantic Gesture That is Out of This World

Gifting a sci-fi film compiled of NASA footage is enough to make any geek swoon: Robbie, a short created by Australian director Neil Harvey, was first made with the intention of being an anniversary gift for his girlfriend.

Gifting a sci-fi film compiled of NASA footage is enough to make any geek swoon: Robbie, a short created by Australian director Neil Harvey, was first made with the intention of being an anniversary gift for his girlfriend. A few months later, it is a bit bigger than that and quickly getting the attention it deserves.

After downloading some 10 hours of preexisting NASA footage, Harvey cut it down into clips that "resonated" with him: over the course of a few months, an intriguing narrative evolved. Set 6,000 years in the future, the film follows Robbie, an aging robot drifting alone through space. Mesmerizing and fascinating to watch, both the story and the footage make our hearts go pitter-patter. See the film below and let us know what you think.
