Behind every power tweeter is a great Twitter client. Though the microblogging site itself has made leaps and bounds within the past year, introducing such features as embedded media and a complete user profile redesign, those who manage multiple accounts still need a powerful app — like TweetDeck, the Twitter-owned desktop and browser-based social media dashboard.

TweetDeck just updated its app with a cleaner user interface and a host of new features. We're loving the look and feel of the updated desktop app and suggest that avid tweeters try it for themselves. Here are six reasons why you'll want to make TweetDeck your new Twitter client today.

Twitter Acquires TweetDeck: What Does This Mean For You?

After a very public kerfuffle with TweetDeck earlier this year, Twitter went ahead and acquired the third-party dashboard from UberMedia for $50 million yesterday.

After a very public kerfuffle with TweetDeck earlier this year, Twitter went ahead and acquired the third-party dashboard from UberMedia for $50 million yesterday.

TweetDeck currently boasts 40 million users, so what does this acquisition mean for them? There's no word yet on the future of the dashboard — whether it will be more tightly integrated to Twitter itself or scrapped altogether — but its ability to interface with Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Buzz, and Foursquare will surely come into question. Why would Twitter want to keep and support those features?

While TweetDeck could go the way of LaLa after Apple acquired it (virtually disappearing into the bowels of Apple's research and development, hopefully to be reincarnated as a cloud-based service), one thing's for sure — TweetDeck addicts will want to know the deal sooner rather than later. We'll keep you posted on developments.

After Success With Chrome App, TweetDeck Web Comes to All Browsers

After launching as an app in the Chrome web store, Twitter client TweetDeck announced a new web app that will work across all of the major browsers: Firefox, Safari, IE, and Opera.

After launching as an app in the Chrome web store, Twitter client TweetDeck announced a new web app that will work across all of the major browsers: Firefox, Safari, IE, and Opera. TweetDeck Web, which just launched in beta, is a standalone web page that doesn't require an app store or download to work.

One caveat: this new web component does not support streaming, which means refreshing the page and your feed. If you prefer not to hit refresh, your best bet is still the desktop app.

Users with current TweetDeck accounts can sign up to be a part of the beta testing at the beta hub.

Download of the Day: Official TweetDeck For Android App

Just a few weeks after unleashing the beta version of its Android app, TweetDeck has been officially released to the masses.

Just a few weeks after unleashing the beta version of its Android app, TweetDeck has been officially released to the masses. If you didn't check out the previous version of the uber-popular Twitter client, which supports Facebook, Twitter, Buzz, and Foursquare, you'll be happy to know that it was built "from the ground up" and has a bunch of cool new features (including ones not available on the iPhone or iPad apps).

For example, you can adjust the light, sounds, and vibrate mode of each column (which are organized by type of activity) or type of account, go to the geodata feature to find friends who've checked in or tweeted around you, and pick any friend to add to your favorite profile list for quick access. In addition, the "Me" wall lets you view posts sent to you, or about you. All in all, the new official version has improved on an already great thing.

Since it hit the streets last week, the app is already one of the most popular apps in the Android Market. And keep an eye out — new versions of the iPad and iPhone TweetDeck apps, modeled on the Android version, are forthcoming.

New! TweetDeck For Android

TweetDeck for iPhone launched over a year ago, and now TweetDeck has finally come to Android.

TweetDeck for iPhone launched over a year ago, and now TweetDeck has finally come to Android. The app, which was released today, puts the most popular Twitter client on your Android phone and comes with some sweet updates not yet available on the iPhone, iPad, or desktop applications.

According to the official TweetDeck blog post, the new app is "more than just TweetDeck on Android." The app features TweetDeck's signature multicolumn display, but the columns are created based on type of activity, not the service the post came from (TweetDeck supports Facebook, Foursquare, and Google Buzz).
