Although I think you should get a TiVo for more than just to watch the tube, there are some minor things I wish I could change about the player. For example, the status bar on the bottom of the screen — it takes forever to disappear! Now some of you may think I'm being overly dramatic, but really, it takes a while, no?
So when you can't take it anymore, just enter this sequence on your remote: Select, Play, Select, Pause, Select, which should take care of your lagging status bar for good.
I've always loved being able to watch TiVoCasts — short video series like Diggnation — on my TiVo.
TiVoCasts were of course derived from podcasts, which I still adore, audio-only aspect and all. (Current fave? The Engadget podcast hosted by Josh Topolsky.) And I just learned that you can get and listen to all your favorite podcasts on your TV through TiVo's Podcaster feature.
This is great for me, since sometimes I forget to sync my iPhone or run out of "headphone time." Being able to play them on my TiVo is going to be a great convenience for me — hello, housecleaning soundtrack.
Did you know you can use your TiVo and an internet connection to download cool content from the web? TiVoCasts are short, cool features that only last about five to ten minutes, so they don't take up too much space on your TiVo's hard drive.
My favorites are ThreadBanger (alternative craft and sewing projects), Ultra Kawaii (adorable pet videos — what? It's a guilty pleasure), The Onion, (hilarious short news clips from the seminal newspaper), and Break.com (viral videos popular on the Internet that week). To get your TiVoCasts, just go to "Find Programs" from your TiVo home screen. Click on "TiVoCasts" and you can search categories or for the name of TiVoCast. You can also do it online, too!
TiVoCasts show up on your "Now Playing" screen with all your shows and most are on a weekly schedule. Oh and did I mention, it's totally free with your TiVo subscription?!
