Deck Your Walls With Steampunk Rock Star Scientist Posters

Scientists are total rock stars.
Steampunk Scientist Posters

Scientists are total rock stars. These ones in particular — Tesla, Bardeen, Einstein, Bohr, and Oppenheimer — helped to bring about things like radios, X-rays, transistors, and theories on atomic structure and relativity. You know, things we still use today, or were instrumental in advancing technology to what it is now.

So treat these fine scientists to a bit of space on your wall with these Steampunk Rock Star Scientist Posters ($72 for all five). They'll not only look steampunk chic in your apartment, but you'll get props from all your science nerd friends.

Love It or Leave It

Steampunk 4GB Flash Drive: Love It or Leave It?

I was totally up on the steampunk craze, and although I would never be able to afford this $3,000 (yes, that's three zeros) 4GB Steampunk Flash Drive, I can appreciate its workmanship.

I was totally up on the steampunk craze, and although I would never be able to afford this $3,000 (yes, that's three zeros) 4GB Steampunk Flash Drive, I can appreciate its workmanship. Hand crafted with love by Etsy user WillRockwell, the drive is listed at such a high price because Will says that's what it would take to "pry the drive out of my hands and take it from my world into yours." I totally understand the sentiment, Will. That's one hot flash drive.

What's Steampunk, You Say? This Is Steampunk!

Doesn't it seem like Steampunk just appeared on the scene and suddenly was everywhere in the geek world?
Steampunk Movement Re-Fashions Modern Technology Into Romantic, Old-Fashioned Pieces

Doesn't it seem like Steampunk just appeared on the scene and suddenly was everywhere in the geek world? Seeing enough steampunked items gives you a mild understanding of what it is, but whenever I've been asked to describe what Steampunk is, I kind of sputter and stutter. Papermag, on the other hand, describes it more eloquently, as a "retro design movement that's all about the future," in which steampunkers refashion pieces of modern technology with Victorian-era flair. Steampunk Workshop founder Jake von Slatt calls it "the intersection of technology and romance." Sigh. Check out my slideshow for some awesome examples of Steampunk love!

Vintage Keyboard Gets Matching Monitor

Remember the Vintage Geek Keyboard the people over at the Steampunk Workshop made to look like an old typewriter keyboard?

Remember the Vintage Geek Keyboard the people over at the Steampunk Workshop made to look like an old typewriter keyboard? Well, they finally realized it looked funny hooked up to a modern monitor and made some creative adjustments to the monitor to complete the set. I must admit I was a little taken aback when I realized the project resembled the golden mustard colored pimped out PC from Smooth Creations, but the retro appeal of the effort won me over.

The monitor, which started out as a Dell 1907FP flat panel monitor, got its makeover with metallic gold paint from Rustoleum, a thin coat of brown Krylon Crystal Color and a new marble base.
