Sony Recalls 535,000 Vaio Laptops

Attention Sony Vaio users: the company has recalled the F- and C-series Vaio computers sold after January of this year after reports that they can get hot enough to cause the cases to bend, potentially burning users.

Attention Sony Vaio users: the company has recalled the F- and C-series Vaio computers sold after January of this year after reports that they can get hot enough to cause the cases to bend, potentially burning users. The affected computers are in markets worldwide, though Sony says it's only received 39 reports of overheating.

Luckily, the problem can be fixed with a software download, so there is no need to physically take your computer to be fixed. To see if your Vaio is one of the affected, visit Sony's site to check your computer's serial number, then download the update. Sony has offered to arrange pickup of any affected laptop should customers not want to install the update themselves.

Black Crocodile Sony Vaio P Notebook: Love It or Leave It?

Although Sony just announced its newly updated Vaio P series a few days ago, they've already released another version, but only for Japanese fans.

Although Sony just announced its newly updated Vaio P series a few days ago, they've already released another version, but only for Japanese fans. The Black Crocodile Sony Vaio P comes with all the new bells and whistles the US version has — like the two touch controls on the screen bezel, PS3 streaming and compatibility, and an accelerometer — but adds a few extra hours on the battery to top out at 12.5 hours of play time. Additionally, this version is packaged with noise-canceling headphones for those musically inclined geeks who want to listen to their tunes in peace. Oh, and then there's the outer casing. So luxurious, no?

I'll admit — I'm a fan, and hope this version arrives stateside soon. But what about you — do you love it, or would you rather leave it?

Sony Gives Its Vaio P Series an Update

Just when you thought it was safe to buy a new netbook, Sony releases an update to its Vaio P series!

Just when you thought it was safe to buy a new netbook, Sony releases an update to its Vaio P series! Announced earlier today, Sony has added a few new features onto its long and lean 8-inch portable notebook, like an accelerometer (to rotate the screen and read websites, PDFs, and ebooks length-wise) and a touchpad right on the screen's bezel to navigate websites and documents without using the keyboard (though the regular pointing stick will still be on board). Sony says this new design will allow geeks to hold their notebooks with two hands and easily compute while walking or standing. However, I'm not sure that I'm on board with toting your notebook around while cruising your hood.

The Vaio P also got an updated color palette for Spring, ranging from cool white and black to a neon pink, green, and orange, along with new hot keys to quickly adjust the screen's resolution and launch Internet Explorer. Coming with 2GB of memory, 64GB hard drive, five hours of battery life, GPS, and PS3 streaming capabilities, it seems like a great competitor to other portable laptops on the market. Of course, as in true Sony Vaio tradition, the price tag may make you think twice about buying — the new Vaio P series will set you back $800. No US launch date details yet, but they'll be available in the UK starting in June.
