Despite the newly released Apple TV's impressive improvements and easy-to-use interface, you don't need to limit yourself to renting flicks, or even wait for Google's new system to launch. If you don't mind a bit more work, and like having all of your content available on your nice, big HD screen, I can tell you how to set up a kick-ass home theater system using a Mac Mini, and a free software download called Plex. Follow along in this handy how-to and prepare to be entertained when you read more.
Roundup: Software
Home hardware is one of the last things we think about changing when sprucing up our homes — and that's especially true for renters. But if your home is feminine and elegant, or even shabby chic, why put up with gritty, masculine hardware? I'm hereby coining a name for delicate door knobs, sophisticated switchplates, and haute handles: software. From violet pressed glass to hand-painted ceramic, it's time to get your girl on.
Seriously Confused Infomercial Can't Tell a Mac From a PC
We all know how frustrating a slow computer can be. Sometimes, I even have little patience for a slow-moving machine. So what to do? Get more RAM, move some of your data to an external hard drive to free up some space? Well if you're up late at night, you might be tempted by the Finally Fast infomercial like my pal Molly was, who tipped me off to this hilarity.

Finally Fast offers you a free diagnostic test and free software to "get your computer up to peak performance", then flashes a warning that tells us: Finally Fast is for PC computers only. So why are there Macs being used in the commercial?! Needless to say, you shouldn't trust Finally Fast if they can't even tell the difference between a Mac and a PC. Watch and enjoy.
Jailbreaking Software Coming to an iPhone 3G Near You
With all the iPhone 3G madness from the past week, I've had many people ask me about the taboo topic of "jailbreaking the iPhone 3G." Yes it is possible, with developers creating numerous ways to jailbreak the pristine iPhone 3G at this very moment. If your phone is jailbroken, you'll have read/write access, which will give you access to all of the official third-party apps plus the unofficial ones — oh what fun. Here's a video of the latest piece of software that will help you in your jailbreaking quest, which will soon be making its way to the public. As always, please use at your own risk!
Make Wedding Planning Easier by Downloading Software
You don't have to be a geek to like wedding software, but if you like to be organized then perk up — this may be for you. If you've been using Excel spreadsheets to organize your wedding planning, that's great, but labor intensive, plus there is so much to remember to record and follow! Let some software hold your hand and tell you it's OK.
There's a few options as far as wedding software, and I like programs that are downloadable (no waiting time or waste!). iDo Software is a comprehensive mother lode of organization. They've pretty much thought of everything, from guest-list issues and organization (like invitation tracking, flight and hotel info for each, gift recording, and virtual seating charts) to preloaded checklists for anything and everything you might need. At $30, it's a lot cheaper and less high strung than hiring a J. Lo. Potential drawback? It's PC only.

Art Rage 2: A Painter's Delight
When I spotted this stand at Macworld, I thought it was pretty ingenious. Ambient Design showcased Art Rage 2, an easy to use painting program that lets you basically treat the screen as a canvas. You can choose to paint with oils, or sketch with pencils, very cool! For the professional user, ArtRage also offers multiple layers for painting, and layered PSD document import and export so you can easily use it alongside your existing tools. This girl in the pic was using the Art Rage 2 paintbrush to paint a beautiful scenery. This program is seriously just like painting, I was very impressed!
Click Art Rage 2 to download the free edition or to purchase the full edition for $20.
