Sanyo Ups Its Camcorder Game With the Xacti 102YL

Toss the Sanyo into the ring with the other handheld camcorders on the market today, and it just may be the last one standing.

Toss the Sanyo into the ring with the other handheld camcorders on the market today, and it just may be the last one standing. Although I already gave the Kodak Playsport my seal of approval, the new Sanyo Xacti 102YL could just take the cake in terms of specs and power. Both the Playsport and the Sanyo are water-friendly — both models can film in up to 10 feet of water — but the Sanyo tops out at eight hours of full HD video recording, has 64GB of memory space (with help from an SD card or Eye-Fi SD card), takes 14MP stills, supports 5X optical zoom (and 12X double-range zoom), and comes with a 2.7-inch TFT LCD display.

The Katana II boasts 21MB of storage, a VGA camera and voice SMS, whereas the DLX has a 1.3-megapixel cam, a microSD slot and online access.

New Battery Can Be Charged 1,000 Times

While we live in an age dominated by electronic devices that can be charged via USB or their own "plug into the wall" chargers there are still plenty of people and gadgets that require good old fashioned batteries.

While we live in an age dominated by electronic devices that can be charged via USB or their own "plug into the wall" chargers there are still plenty of people and gadgets that require good old fashioned batteries. Sanyo has actually created a line of rechargeable NiMH batteries that will be sold all charged up and ready to go - an unthinkable option in the past. Other NiMH rechargeables have to be charged before they can be used, which makes for that terrible lag time between opening your new gadgets and using your new gadgets. The even better news is these puppies can reportedly be used 1,000 times without any memory effects.

A pack of two AA Eneloop batteries will cost $10, and will be on shelves November 14. Looks like Japan is the first market, but stay tuned.
