Putting the Palm Pre to the geeksugar Test

It's about time, right?!

It's about time, right?! For the geeksugar Palm Pre review, that is. Better late than never in my opinion, so without further adieu, let's get the Pre party started.

I've had the past week to use and abuse this device and if you were anti-Palm before, it's safe to say they've come a long way since the Centro. The Pre is flashy, sexy, and perfectly fit in the palm of my hand. With its nice glossy black exterior, it tends to be fingerprint-prone, but if you switch the back plate with the plain black touchstone compatible back, you should be good to go.

The flip out QWERTY keyboard comes in handy for typing emails and texting (the Pre has copy and paste!), but keys are somewhat small so I tended to use my fingernails for precision. When the keyboard is flipped out, you'll find a nice mirror on the back of the Pre — a mirror that's big enough for quick food in the teeth checks or makeup touch-ups. The Pre's 3.2-megapixel built-in camera takes crystal clear pics, and with the big bright flash, you can take night shots no problem. Also, with Palm's stellar image processing, you can take photos continuously (like a regular camera) since there isn't a shutter lag.

Which Is Hotter: New Palm Pre or iPhone 3G S Commercial?

Regardless how you feel about the actual device (even though I know a majority of you are in the market for a new iPhone 3G S), take a gander at these fresh new commercials for the Palm Pre and iPhone 3G S, and let me know which one grabs your attention more.

Regardless how you feel about the actual device (even though I know a majority of you are in the market for a new iPhone 3G S), take a gander at these fresh new commercials for the Palm Pre and iPhone 3G S, and let me know which one grabs your attention more. Normally I don't sit on the fence, but with this one, I'm loving the dramatic Buddhist monk Pre commercial, but think Apple nailed it too with their suspenseful Star Trek meets Mission Impossible II-style clip. What do you think?

T-Mobile G1

The Nitty Gritty on the New Smartphones

It's only been four days since the announcement of the new iPhone 3G S, and I'm already getting my brain picked from friends and family if it's worth the price (unfortunately it's not as cheap as we originally thought).

It's only been four days since the announcement of the new iPhone 3G S, and I'm already getting my brain picked from friends and family if it's worth the price (unfortunately it's not as cheap as we originally thought). I'll tell them, "Well the iPhone offers this, but you may like this about the Pre, so it depends on your needs. Oh, and then there's the G1."

Well my new savior is BillShrink, who has done all the grunt work for me by creating a guide which compares the iPhone 3G S to the Pre and the T-Mobile G1. As you can see, all of the main items you want to know about like price, battery life and service plans are listed, so you can get a better idea about which one suits your needs. . . and budget!

Which New Gadgets Are You Most Excited About?

With E3 last week and WWDC this week, I know I've been throwing a ton of product announcements your way — the PSP Go and iPhone 3G S just skim the tip of the tech iceberg.

With E3 last week and WWDC this week, I know I've been throwing a ton of product announcements your way — the PSP Go and iPhone 3G S just skim the tip of the tech iceberg. And on top of those two big annual events, this week also brought the release of the Palm Pre and the Kindle DX. I'm already impressed with all four of these products in their own right, but I'm interested in knowing if there are any that you are going ga-ga over?

WHERE App Available on the Palm Pre

Longtime users of the iPhone are very familiar with the location based WHERE app which can tell you all sorts of things like where the cheapest gas station is, where the nearest Starbucks is, or help you find great restaurants on Yelp.

Longtime users of the iPhone are very familiar with the location based WHERE app which can tell you all sorts of things like where the cheapest gas station is, where the nearest Starbucks is, or help you find great restaurants on Yelp.

Well here's some good news to appease the soon-to-be Palm Pre adopters — there will be a WHERE app available for the Pre straightaway! What this means is app developers are frantically getting their famous iPhone apps ready for the Pre, so I wouldn't rule out app coolness on the Pre just yet. I'm hoping to see some new ones in the mix as well.
