Barnes & Noble announced a big update to its Nookcolor ereader this morning, which allows Android apps to run on the Nookcolor. Essentially, it's now a sweet hybrid tablet at an awesome price — just $249!
If you're a Nookcolor owner and haven't already checked out the 100 or so apps that are available for download now on your ereader (more coming soon — B&N has opened up the platform to developers), here's a quick primer on a few you should consider buying today.
In December, it was revealed that 18,000 NookColors were produced every day. Powered by Android, the $249 tablets function sort of similarly to many of the other, more expensive tablets without the huge price tag. And while they'll never have the full functionality of, say, the Xoom, as ereaders go, it's powerful and worthwhile.

Jessica Alba may be getting glammed up to walk the Golden Globes red carpet today, but she spent her Thursday morning running errands, and brought her new Nookcolor along for the ride. The new Nookcolor isn't just for reading books — the Android operating system makes it more like a tablet, and it comes with tons of cool kid-friendly features, which her daughter, Honor, should adore.
