This is an actual text message I received from a friend today. I won't tell you if she's a Jersey Shore fan . . . but you can probably guess!

Nook App Comes to Android

Less than a month after Amazon announced its Kindle App for Android, Barnes & Noble has followed up with an Android app of its own. The Nook app for Android phones will allow users to read any book available for the Nook right on their phone. While you don't have to be a Nook user to use the app, if you do have a Nook and have purchased titles for it, you can access them through the app, too. This includes books you've already purchased for the Nook and books you purchase in the future.

Find out what other great feature the app comes with after the break.

Funny Tech Stories: No One Puts My Nook in a Corner

Geek community member morganashley shared this hilarious story in our Funny Tech Stories group:

I finally caved and bought a WiFi Nook over the weekend. After scanning the many (many!) pages of free yet oft-smutty titles, I started an eWishList so I could figure out which books I wanted to buy and load on my new device first. Today I was IMing with my mom and shared my new purchase story with her when we hit a bit of a techie lost-in-translation situation.

Find out what happened after the break.

WiFi-Only Nook Coming This Week?

We have been expecting a new version of the popular Nook ereader since update rumors began in April, and now there seems to be confirmation that something called Nook WiFi is set to be released later this week.

We have been expecting a new version of the popular Nook ereader since update rumors began in April, and now there seems to be confirmation that something called Nook WiFi is set to be released later this week.

Screenshots of a Barnes and Noble inventory database show a WiFi-only Nook could be coming on Wednesday, June 23 for $150. This model would presumably be stocked with the same touchscreen interface you know and love from the Nook, as well as new web browsing, games, and performance features that were added in the v1.3 update a few months ago, but would be sans-3G access. This WiFi-only version is perfectly priced to compete with the just-released Kobo ereader from Borders, which has gotten a lot of buzz recently for its affordability. Hopefully the new Nook WiFi will still come with the bonus of a $50 gift card, so you can load it up with literary faves and save even more cash in the process.

Update: It's official — the Barnes and Noble Nook WiFi is available now for $149, while the Nook 3G's price has been cut to $199!

Buy a Nook, Get a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card

If you're in the market for an ereader, you could head to Target for a Kindle, or you could take advantage of an offer from Barnes & Noble, offering a $50 gift card with purchase of a Nook.

If you're in the market for an ereader, you could head to Target for a Kindle, or you could take advantage of an offer from Barnes & Noble, offering a $50 gift card with purchase of a Nook. The offer is aimed at helping new Nook owners fill their device with reading material. Currently, the Nook and Kindle are both priced at $259, so for those teetering between the two, this deal may be a push in the Nook direction.

And if you do pick up a Nook soon, be sure to check out my favorite stylish Nook cases!

Barnes & Noble Brings Its Books to the iPad

The heat is on!

The heat is on! Not only can you get the Kindle on your Mac, but Barnes & Noble announced their new ereader app for the iPad last night, which brings all the benefits of owning B&N's native Nook ereader to Apple fans who couldn't pass up the chance to read books and browse the Internet on a (nearly) 10-inch tablet. The App lets you choose from Barnes & Noble's free, paid, or sampled books, magazines, and even sharing them between friends with B&N's LendMe technology.

Plus, if you've purchased a book online or through a Nook, you can find it on your iPad app so you don't have to repurchase your favorite titles, and the interface is customizable to make it easier to read — adjust the font, color, and margin sizes, and add notes, highlights, or links to the text. Best part? The app is totally free.

You Asked, We Answered: Help Me Find a Stylish Nook Case!

I get asked a lot of questions at home, at the office, and even on social networking sites about gadgets and their accessories.
Designer Nook Cases

I get asked a lot of questions at home, at the office, and even on social networking sites about gadgets and their accessories. Never one to turn down an opportunity to live vicariously through your purchases, I was asked by a fellow Nook fan via Twitter to help her find a high-end case. The inspiration: the Kate Spade Jane Street Cover ($125, left) available through Barnes & Noble. The folder-style cover was just what she wanted, but the colors screamed a little too loudly for her particular taste. Although designers haven't yet jumped on the Nook train like they have for the Kindle (case in point: the DVF Kindle cases we saw last week!), I found some stylish alternatives that look just as great. See what I came up with in this slideshow, and don't be afraid to ask for help with shopping, tips, or instructions in our community, or send us a note on Twitter or Facebook!

The Nook Gets Updated With New Features

Lots of Nook news this month — not only have Nook sales expanded past Barnes & Noble's walls, but there's also speculation about two new models hitting shelves this year!

Lots of Nook news this month — not only have Nook sales expanded past Barnes & Noble's walls, but there's also speculation about two new models hitting shelves this year! But if you were an early adopter to the ereader — it was your favorite ereader of 2009, anyway — there's a new over-the-air update that will enhance your Nook and add some new features to the lineup.

First up is WiFi — you always had access to WiFi hotspots at Barnes & Noble stores, but now the hotspots and WiFi access have expanded to Starbucks, hotels, and anywhere you can log in for free. In addition to more WiFi access, you can hop on Barnes & Noble's network in any store and with the new "Read in Store" feature can scan thousands of digital books for free for up to an hour a day. No squatters, please.

Rumor Mill: Nook Lite and Nook 2 on Their Way

According to a tipster in-the-know, two new Nook ereaders — the Nook Lite and Nook 2 — will be unveiled later this year.

According to a tipster in-the-know, two new Nook ereaders — the Nook Lite and Nook 2 — will be unveiled later this year.

No details were given about the Nook 2, but the Nook Lite is said to be hitting stores by the end of Q2 (June), will have WiFi-only functionality (compared to the WiFi and 3G capabilities of the original), and will sell for $200. Additionally, a Nook software update is expected to hit next week, and will include the addition of a browser.

This news doesn't really come as a surprise after learning that the Nook will be sold at Best Buy (starting tomorrow), since Barnes and Noble will need to clear the way for new models. I'm stoked about the lower price (even though it comes without 3G), so geeks on a budget can get their e-reading on as well.

The Barnes & Noble Nook Taking a Road Trip to Best Buy

Steve Jobs said yesterday during the iPhone OS 4.0 announcement that they have already seen upwards of a whopping 600,000 iBook downloads on the iPad, so bringing the other two ereader contenders to big box stores ups the chances that consumers will pick either the Nook or the Kindle over the $500 iPad. Extra bonus for all of us if there ends up being some price wars going down between Amazon and Barnes & Noble as well! Which ereader do you prefer?
