A lot of people don't like modern because it can be cold, but sometimes when it is that means it's really, really cool.

Such is the case with DWR's Aluminum Mouse Pad ($35), which is spare, striking and literally cold to the touch (except for the felt wrist rest, natch).

It may lack a certain patterned flair of say, a Marimekko mouse pad, but if you're edging away from using mouse pads because of their Office Space-type looks, then this version might work great for your own fabulous office space.

No amount of criticism that their stuff is too saccharine or, uh, pink will stop them from making stuff like this Sweet Couture Mouse and Mousepad ($45).I have a toothache just looking at this, but perhaps you have just redone your home office area into a pink heart and flower sanctuary.

Flight of the Conchords always cracks me up, so when I saw this $10 Flight of the Conchords: Eco-Friendly Mouse Pad on Hippy Shopper, I had to convince myself that my desk accessories need a little makeover. Besides, looking at two adorably goofy guys all day isn't that difficult either.

I have, and because I'm totally on a Marimekko kick right now, I found these awesome mouse pads bearing beautiful designs from my favorite Finnish design company.

The Unikko design (the flower) is out of stock now, but I had to include it, because it's a classic.

And honestly, I'm not really as into looking at mouse pads anymore, because I'm on my laptop a lot, but I am totally making an exception for these!

Finding unique mouse pads that don't have company logos on them isn't easy. The usual suspects often look cheap, silly, or just make you feel dumb. So why not use a mouse pad that's fun and functional? The Daily Mood Tracker Mouse Pad, $10, is actually a paper pad with empty mood categories (hey, you never know how you are gonna feel tomorrow!) and space where you can leave yourself notes and reminders. I love this mouse pad's retro styling and the message "Smart Women Back Up," because, you know, they do. (OK, yeah, I know it says "Smart Women Back Up Their Words," but I'm sure they're aware of the double entendre.)

It might be a very helpful reminder for the lazy geeks among us (guilty!).

I for one like a bit of color but a mouse and matching mouse pad might be a bit over the top. Maybe the perfect gift for a child or student or for my mom who I know would love something like this. I absolutely adore this style of print! You know, the vintage picture with hilarious captions, which you find on cards and fridge magnets and you can't help but read them? How great is it that you can now get vintage geek mouse pads with that similar print?! This fab "Yes, You CAN Have a Pony Mouse Pad" can be purchased on Etsy for $14. Each design is hand made on thick mouse pads that measure 7.5 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick with a rubber base. Me likey alot! Maybe my inner geeky-quirkiness is shining through?
