In the ongoing battle of cat vs. dog, we'd like to name cats as the fluffy mascot of nerd culture. With their innate smarts, enterprising attitude, and the force behind some of the Internet's biggest memes, it's safe to say felines are officially Team Geek. In celebration of National Cat Day, take a look at the geekiest cats of pop culture.
Twitter can haz a new language option, and it's available right meow. On Fridai — er, Friday — the Twitterz announced (via tweet, of course) that users now have the option to view their Twitter feeds in the language of LOLcat.
The new "languuj" is available through Twitter settings > Account. Select "LOLCATZ (beta)" as the language, and hit save changes. Only you will be able to see your Twitter page's lolspeak — the setting does not automatically translate your tweets.
After changing your language settings, Twitter will be referred to as "TWITTR," location will become "LOCASHUN," and "KTHXBYE!" will be appended to links randomly throughout the site.
To the disappointment of grammar and spelling traditionalists around the world, the LOLcats meme quickly spread through the website I Can Has Cheezburger in the late-2000s and established felines as the rulers of the Internet animal kingdom.
Switch up your language settings, and let us know how long you can go in the new capitalized, misspelled cat version of Twitter — KTHXBYE!
Hello, kitty. If you love felines as much as we do, then you'll want these top-notch cat photo editors on your iOS device ASAP. Let's face it, cats make us laugh out loud harder than any other creature in the animal kingdom. Maybe it's because cats have more emotional range than Meryl Streep on her best day; they're cute, then they're cuddly, then they hate you, then they go psycho on a scratching post. In any case, we've got the five best ROFL-inducing feline photo-bombing iOS apps for cat lovers.
- Cat Effects (free) — Our personal favorite doesn't cost a penny, unless you want even more cats to choose from, in which case you'll need to fork over an extra dollar. Take photos directly from Facebook or your camera roll, and add as many cats to the image as you want. Use gestures to resize, move, and rotate the cats for primo placement.
- CatPaint ($0.99) — Laser eyes and cat sounds . . . need we say more? Choose from 20 different cats, and they'll meow as you add them to your pictures. Share the cat paintings instantly on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
Find even more cats, kitties, and lasers after the break.
If you have been on the Internet in the past two years, then you know the LOLCats of I Can Has Cheezburger, and if you have any kind of sense of humor at all, you love them. So how amazing are these LOLMagnetz from ThinkGeek?
Because I think it's an art form (trust me, not just anyone can do it), what better way to train than to have the words in magnet form, for your rearranging pleasure? I'm ordering a few sets, and look for the communication in my household to get reeeeally interesting in the near future. KTHXBai!
Thinking about applying for a job at icanhascheezburger? Then you'd better brush up your skillz with the ultimate Lolcat translator, Speaklolcat. As a die-hard lolcat lover, my biggest pet peeve in the world — and I have many — is when people try to create their own Lolcat text and fail, horribly.
Please people — it's not all in bad spelling! Yes, poor spelling is involved, as is poor grammar, but most Lolcat vernacular is based on the phonetic spelling of words. The rest, my friends, is art. Pure, infallible art. I used Speaklolcat to translate a famous Oscar Wilde quote and produced "TEH ONLY WAI 2 GIT RID OV TEMPTASHUN IZ 2 YIELD 2 IT." Quite right.
OK, I'm going to tell you about this, with a warning: once you start making these pictures you won't get anything else done. Those begrudgingly funny, quasi-annoying crazy cat caption pics? This is that, but with political and media figures! It's called Pundit Kitchen and they want you to "cook up pictures" for your own amusement.
There's a whole passel of pre-loaded pics to choose from, or feel free to upload your own. Slap on a caption, grab the code and put it in your own blog or share with your most patient pals. By all means if you make funny ones, send 'em our way! We might even post our faves on Friday.
Not a day goes by that I don't get my Lolcat fix ever since I found the site. What it is about grammar-impaired kitty cats that has me so transfixed? I will never know. Don't ask me to pick my favorites, I just can't — but I will pick my favorite geeky Lolcats.
