I gotta hand it to ya, geeks — you're a crafty bunch! After we've professed our love for the hanging ink cartridge lamps, Etsy user Lowell & Louise adds to the infatuation by creating these cute and functional upcycled ink cartridge desk lamps. Don't have a place for an Epson chandelier? No problem — just prop one of these up alongside your external hard drive, lay it flat for a minimal effect, or dangle it from a wall hanger to make a unique focal point for your room. At $30, they're a steal, and quite an ingenious way to help out Mother Earth as well.
The good people of Etsy are never short on creativity, but being able to produce something as stylish and eco-friendly as these recycled Ink Cartridge Hanging Lamps ($45) takes some serious skills. Made from four disassembled Epson ink cartridges (of varying colors, natch), these lights are a brilliant example of recycling savvy that also preform a basic function — lighting your room. Best part? You can customize the colors when you order to get the exact look you want. I'd love to hang a few of these from the ceiling of my office, or heck, even my living room. Let's not pretend — I like to wave my geek flag pretty proudly.
I know most of you still use home printers, so listen up — recycling those empty printer cartridges has just gotten a whole lot easier thanks to HP and Walgreens! Last week I purchased a new HP cartridge and included in the box was a little envelope (postage paid) for me to mail away my old cartridge for recycling. And then after a quick trip to Walgreens, I noticed on my bag that Walgreens has a printer cartridge recycling program where you just take your empty cartridge to the photo counter for recycling — how great is that?! And if you have an old HP cartridge but didn't get an envelope with your new one, you can order one here.
