The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) announced the six winners of the 38th Annual Interior Design Competition this past week, and Tony Chi and Associates was noted as one of the winners for its design of the Andaz 5th Avenue Hotel in New York. This luxury hotel, whose interiors were inspired by the city itself, features high ceilings and open spaces as well as a facade of floor-to-ceiling glass framed in limestone. The space boasts plentiful artwork, including 14-foot murals by Carlos Capelán, a marble and resin Nick Hornby sculpture, and a bronze Gertrude Stein statue.

Located directly across from the New York Public Library, the hotel utilizes natural building materials, including poplar and basalt, which help to create a relaxed, residential feel, as does the muted color palette. With 184 rooms, a restaurant, library, cellar bar, and event space, the hotel is a perfect spot for relaxing after a day spent sightseeing in the city, or to unwind before heading back into an activity-packed evening.

Companies Turning to Twitter to Answer Customer Inquiries

We've already heard of instances where customers turn to Twitter to air their grievances about a particular company.

We've already heard of instances where customers turn to Twitter to air their grievances about a particular company. Now Hyatt and Best Buy are trying to make it that much easier for their customers to contact them with questions or concerns thanks to their new Twitter services: Twelpforce and HyattConcierge.

With Twelpforce, Best Buy is hoping that its hundreds of employees will handle tech-related issues and customer service questions. And so far, so good, by the looks of it. Questions seem to be getting answered in a prompt fashion.

As for Hyatt, @HyattConcierge is for anyone who has questions about trip details, staying at a Hyatt in general, or any other issues that may arise during your stay at one of the company's hotels.

Overall, I think it's a great idea that companies are doing this — it certainly saves you from calling a 1-800 number and being passed from one customer service rep to another!

Fit Travel Tip: Inquire About Fit Amenities at Your Hotel

I recently took a trip out to Lake Tahoe and stayed at the Hyatt Regency there.

I recently took a trip out to Lake Tahoe and stayed at the Hyatt Regency there. I've always been a fan of Hyatt hotels because they tend to have great gyms and fitness programs for their guests. With its new StayFit program, most Hyatt gyms are open 24 hours a day so you can work out whenever you want. Now, the Hyatt is also offering some pretty sweet in-room fitness amenities.

Since we were traveling with the girls, we booked a suite because for the space factor. When we arrived to our room, I was delighted not only by the super-spacious room, but also the stationary bike inside it! Sometimes it is nice to escape to the gym, but I often have trouble fitting it in. With a stationary bike in my room, I had no excuse not to exercise. Later I asked the front desk what to do in the future if I wanted a room with a bike, and they said to ask if there are any available.

The whole experience made me think that it pays to be proactive when it comes to your fitness needs, especially when traveling. If I had not lucked out, I would have never even known that having exercise equipment in your room was an option. My guess is that most hotels offer many more fitness and health amenities than meets the eye, you just need to ask the front desk or concierge so you can take full advantage and stay fit while on vacation.

Hyatt Hotels To Get the ' i ' Makeover

Out with the old and in with the new!

Out with the old and in with the new! Hyatt Hotels & Resorts are catching up with the times by planning to add iPod-ready iHome clock radio speaker systems to guest rooms in its U.S., Canada and Caribbean properties.

With nearly 70 million iPod's already sold worldwide, is it far fetched to think that iPod speakers should be a mandatory room accessory alongside a television and hair dryer? Hyatt has also announced a new digital download music pilot program in which “individual properties will offer unique, destination-specific music collections.” This program and its properties are set to be integrated across North America throughout 2007.

Kudos to the Hyatt for trading up ghetto blasters for iPod accessories - this seems to be a growing trend.
