Jane Lynch Spoofs an Apple Commercial

Although we didn't see the rumored John Hodgman sign-off commercial at WWDC, we can extend the glow of the now-defunct "Get a Mac" ads a bit longer. Glee's Jane Lynch and iPhone Kassem G. star in this spoof of the famous ads that includes some references to the new iPhone 4 features and a certain website that leaked them before they were official. Jane Lynch is one of my faves, so I got a few extra LOLs out of this one. Enjoy the video below, and check out some behind-the-scenes footage after the break.

See Jane talk about being on "The YouTubes" (warning: some strong, NSFW language ahead) when you keep reading.

Get a Mac Ads Are Laid to Rest

It's been speculated that Apple's famous Get a Mac ad campaign would be getting the boot, and today we finally get confirmation that Mac and PC will be riding off into the sunset.

It's been speculated that Apple's famous Get a Mac ad campaign would be getting the boot, and today we finally get confirmation that Mac and PC will be riding off into the sunset. Apple hasn't released a new Mac vs. PC ad since last October, and now all of the spots have been pulled from Apple's site, while viewers are being redirected to its new Why You'll Love a Mac page.

Maybe Apple will be returning to its old commercial format that we saw during the latest iPad ad, which mimics the Newton ads of old. Either way, you'll be sorely missed Mac and PC. Sorely missed, indeed.

End of an Era: Are the "Get a Mac" Ads Over?

It's a sad day for Mac fans everywhere — the famous Get a Mac Campaign we all know and love may be coming to an end.

It's a sad day for Mac fans everywhere — the famous Get a Mac Campaign we all know and love may be coming to an end. Justin Long sat down to chat with the A.V. Club about his new movie After.Life (which hits theaters tomorrow) and revealed that Apple may be moving on from its familiar Mac vs. PC ads. He says:

You know, I think they might be done. In fact, I heard from John, I think they’re going to move on. I can’t say definitively, which is sad, because not only am I going to miss doing them, but also working with John.

I can't imagine what Apple could possibly come up with next that could top the legacy of Justin Long and John Hodgman, but I guess all good things come to an end eventually. Do you have a favorite Get a Mac ad? See one of my favorites after the break.

Have the Mac vs. PC Ads Jumped the Shark?

Are Apple's long-clever Get a Mac ads no longer clever?

Are Apple's long-clever Get a Mac ads no longer clever? They've tried to respond to Microsoft's Laptop Hunters ads via their Hodgman-and-Long two-man show, but the results just feel a little stale. The first attempt was kind of funny, but this one, starring Seinfeld's Patrick Warburton as a slimy PC salesman, just feels stale.

Watch the ad and let me know: has Apple lost its touch with these Mac vs. PC ads? Should it embark on a new concept, or is this ad the latest in a long line of witty commercials?

Prop 8 Opposition Uses Apple's Get a Mac Ad Parody

Happy Election Day, everybody!

Happy Election Day, everybody! If you're a Californian, you're also deciding the fate of gay marriage in this state. There have been a lot of controversial ads, but this is the first geeky one I've seen. This ad's creators, ostensibly opposers of Prop 8, use a parody of Apple's "Get a Mac" campaign, casting the Mac character as the open-minded one who's against banning gay marriage.

Do you think the creators were adding additional commentary by making the be-suited PC into the Prop 8 supporter, or was it just the luck of the draw in the satire? Are any PC-loving, Prop 8 opposers offended?

Who Wins: Microsoft's Seinfeld Ads or Apple's Mac vs. PC Ads?

Though the second Microsoft ad featuring Jerry Seinfeld is a lot funnier than the first, I can't help but feel that it's still lacking . . . direction? Humor? As a die-hard Seinfeld fan, I'm disappointed that these spots aren't as "Jerry" as his humor on the show was, and even more disappointed because I don't really know what Microsoft is trying to say.

Contrast that with their rival Apple, who've spun the Get a Mac ad campaign off the notion that Mac users are cool and PC users are, well, John Hodgman, and I have to call Apple as the winner again. I get the point, they don't meander, and they entertain me.

Now putting aside your preference for Apple or Microsoft, tell me, which ads do you like more?

The Windows and Mac Guys in '96

This ad totally cracks me up!

This ad totally cracks me up! Little did I know that the PC vs. Mac wars started long before the 21st century. I've got proof — this Windows vs. Mac ad from 1996! The descriptions of each one are worth zooming your eyes in to read, for example "The Mac Addict," it says: "The casual 'Seinfeld cut' is in. Of course, Jerry would never use a PC." I can't even imagine who would be their celebrity poster boy for Apple today. . . John Mayer perhaps? Did you know that the latest PC guy is really a Mac user? Oh the drama!

Even the Guy Who Plays a PC Is a Mac

I've outed John Hodgman before for being an iPhone user (scandal), and I have heard rumblings that he is not, in fact, a PC user. Now I've got it straight from the horse's mouth!

He recently came clean and admitted his devotion to Apple:

"I play a PC only on television. I've used Macs since 1984. When I was a kid, I talked my dad into getting the very first Mac and I've been loyal to the brand ever since."

Yep, I think he's my favorite tech star!

Before he was Apple's hipster Mac representative, I had a little thing for Justin Long (I hear Drew Barrymore does too). Before him, I thought the Dell dude, Ben Curtis — remember him? "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" — was pretty cute (subsequent marijuana-related arrests notwithstanding). And even though I'm a Mac gal, I totally have a thing for sweet little PC, John Hodgman.

Add to them the bespectacled Verizon guy, Paul Marcarelli, who dutifully asks whether you can hear him now and Alltel Wireless' blond cutie Chad Brokaw, and we've got a nice little collection of geeky crushes, courtesy of the tech advertising industry. Who's your fave?
