The Top 10 Geek Girls of TV!

It's a fabulous day when I can flop on my couch at night, turn on the tube, and instead of seeing Vanna Whites and Kelly Kapowskis, I'm rewarded with brainy and beautiful ladies: the geek girls of TV. Whether they were my role models and have since been canceled or are ushering in new traditions of a female archetype, I can't stop watching them (and wanting to be them)! So here they are, in no particular order. . .

Geek Girl History Lesson: Ada Lovelace

I hope you didn't feel discouraged about being a girl geek by that article awhile back that reported women find technology jobs boring.

I hope you didn't feel discouraged about being a girl geek by that article awhile back that reported women find technology jobs boring. Buck up, you — not only do you have geeksugar here at your service, there are plenty of fabulous precedents for you like Google's Marissa Mayer, Lifehacker founder and coder Gina Trapani, and a 19th-century girl geek: Ada Lovelace.

Born in 1815 in London, Ada Lovelace is known as the first programmer. Taught to love mathematics by her mother from a young age, she would later write what was known as the world's first computer program for Charles Babbage's, "analytical engine" — a general purpose, early computer.

To this day, Lovelace is remembered as the first coder and has received a few tributes: the computer language Ada is named for her, her picture is on Microsoft's holographic authenticity stickers, and The British Computer Society awards a medal to female computer science students in her name.

Thanks for representing, Ada!

The Green and Geeky Life of Jill Fehrenbacher

Look what I found in this month's issue of Domino!

Look what I found in this month's issue of Domino! It's geeksugar favorite eco blogger Jill Fehrenbacher! We swooned over the perfect geeky coupling of Jill and Engadget's Peter Rojas last year, and now, the happily-married Inhabitat founder has been profiled in Domino's ongoing "My Green Life" series — which shows a day in the life of an eco-conscious person.

Jill is a green goddess, but what I love about her is her love of and dependence on tech, which often comes through on her blog. In this column, she admits to fantasizing over a MacBook Air, and points us to some awesome websites: Project Earth Day (a green fashion competition) and Freeplay Energy (eco-friendly gadgets).

Adorable, cool, and intelligent — Jill Fehrenbacher is my eco/green/techie idol!

Ingrid Diaz is one of those women that proves geek is chic while bashing the misnomer that girls can't love video games and celebrity gossip. She's the co-editor of Play-Girlz, a fun site that "proudly shows that gaming isn't just a guy sport," and the editor of Grey's Anatomy News and Top Model Gossip. Besides being a great ying/yang combo, Diaz is pretty hilarious and not afraid to admit she likes to frighten the neighbors by singing loudly and off-key while she plays video games. She's also the first geeky gal to admit she thinks Bill Gates is sexy...or maybe that was her joking again... For the full interview, read more
