Work Out Like a Captain: Tips For Staying Fit on Planet Earth

Just because you live in space, doesn't mean you can't stay fit.

Just because you live in space, doesn't mean you can't stay fit. Captain Picard is known throughout the Starfleet for his excellent health (despite some cardiac complications after a near-fatal stabbing through the heart) and fit physique, and he keeps fit by playing sports of all kinds. Check out some of his favorite activities on board the Enterprise and on solid ground. Remember to take a tip from the captain and relax every once in awhile — an extended holiday is good for your health!

Running

Captain Picard is in excellent shape due to his love of running. He is the first freshman to win the Starfleet Academy Marathon, a 24-mile race on the planet Dranula II. If you're not at your tip-top shape just yet, FitSugar can give you plenty of tips on how to keep common running injuries at bay.

Racquetball

Captain Picard enjoys sports on the Enterprise, thanks to the holodeck, one of his favorites being racquetball. Racquetball provides an amazing workout (blasting over 200 calories in 30 minutes) and tests your hand-eye coordination with the quick moving target.

See the rest after the break.

Happy Birthday Captain Jean-Luc Picard!

Being huge fans of Star Trek (and with Captain Picard being one of our favorite TV characters of all time), we couldn't pass up the chance to celebrate the birth of Jean-Luc Picard, which just so happens to be today in the year 2305.

Being huge fans of Star Trek (and with Captain Picard being one of our favorite TV characters of all time), we couldn't pass up the chance to celebrate the birth of Jean-Luc Picard, which just so happens to be today in the year 2305. Sure, he's not technically "born" yet (details, details!), but the good news is, Picard shares the same birth day as Sir Patrick Stewart, who of course, played Picard on the big and small screens. It's a double birthday celebration!

Be sure to check back with us as we honor our captain throughout the day, but first — watch the endearing video below to see Patrick Stewart wish Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry a happy birthday of his own.

Drink Up For Captain Picard Day!

Did you know that today is Captain Picard Day?

Did you know that today is Captain Picard Day? We didn't either (silly us), but we never turn down the opportunity to celebrate a geeky holiday with a few good cocktails. While Jean-Luc's beverage of choice may have been Earl Grey tea, we found a recipe to make his favorite drink more "adult-friendly." Check out the (insanely simple) recipe below!

Jean Luc Picard Cocktail

From Squidoo
8 oz. of Earl Grey Tea (hot)
1 oz. of Grand Marnier Liqueur
Serve in a tea cup.

See, we told you it was simple. Cheers!
