Best of 2010: Favorite Geeky TV Show

We rounded up the shows that made us geek out in 2010, and it became quite the heated battle between Caprica and Supernatural.

We rounded up the shows that made us geek out in 2010, and it became quite the heated battle between Caprica and Supernatural. But in the end, the show that was killed off too soon took home top billing as your favorite of the year.

It may not come as a surprise that the spin-off from one of the best sci-fi shows of the decade, Battlestar Galactica, came out the winner, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) for us the final episodes will be aired next week on SyFy, so we can at least get some closure. So say we all.

Longing for days gone by? Catch up on everything 2010 with the rest of our Best of 2010 coverage!

Back to the Future Is Back in Theaters!

Just in time to create a new generation of fans is the limited theatrical release of Back to the Future: AMC theaters will be showing two screenings of the film across the country on Oct.

Just in time to create a new generation of fans is the limited theatrical release of Back to the Future: AMC theaters will be showing two screenings of the film across the country on Oct. 23 and 25! It's hard to believe that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the film, which is a geek girl's dream for obvious reasons: time travel, love, and science — holla! And don't get me started about the sequel — if we can get hoverboards and flying cars by 2015, as the film predicted, it's going to be real fun getting to work.

It's also the film that almost never was. Well, not as we know it, at least. Before Michael J. Fox came on the scene, Eric Stoltz (who is rockin' it in Caprica, BTW) was originally cast to play Marty McFly. The Blu-ray edition of the 25th anniversary BTTF has original footage of Eric in the role and Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis explaining why they had to let him go. Eric ended up OK, landing the starring role in the '80s classic, Some Kind of Wonderful, shortly after.

Do You Stay Loyal to Sci Fi TV Through a Mid-Season Break?

Things are not looking too good for sci fi on the prime-time front: Lost is in its last season, and three shows — Fringe, FlashForward, and V — are suffering from low ratings.

Things are not looking too good for sci fi on the prime-time front: Lost is in its last season, and three shows — Fringe, FlashForward, and V — are suffering from low ratings. Being a fan of these shows, I am pretty bummed, especially since each one of them (with the exception of Lost) was subjected to the doomed mid-season break and returned to at least 15 percent — if not 50 percent — less viewership. Everyone loves a cliffhanger but not when it's a relatively new show, and especially not after airing only four to eight episodes of it. Add to that the intricate plot lines that often make up sci fi shows, and people can't be bothered to remember what was going on — especially after a four month hiatus! Many still blame a mid-season break for diminishing the splendor that was once Heroes. Talk about a momentum killer.

The good news: Fox believes in Fringe enough to renew it for a third season. The bad: things are looking pretty grim for FlashForward and V. The wait and see: Caprica just had its mid-season finale, so now we play the waiting game to see what Syfy will do with it once it returns in October! I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed for a little sci fi prime-time fix — how about you?

Well, the title sure is appropriate — not only was this week's episode of Caprica full of surprise endings, but the series won't be back until October!

Oh BSG, How I Miss Thee

It's been almost a year since the last episode of Battlestar Galactica aired, and I still miss it.

It's been almost a year since the last episode of Battlestar Galactica aired, and I still miss it. The TV movie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan helped kill my withdrawals a little bit, and even though it's taken a few weeks, I am proud to call myself a full-fledged Caprica fan.

But it's little nuggets like this tribute video that make a BSG-less existence that more bearable. I give you Galatica: Sabotage — get ready to rock!

Is Caprica City Really Seattle?

The new Syfy series Caprica is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on TV.

The new Syfy series Caprica is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on TV. Not only is it well written, but it gives you that warm familiarity of Battlestar Galactica without stepping all over its toes. If you know your Battlestar history, you'd know that the series starts off on the planet Caprica, then travels many light years away to eventually find the Earth we know today. So why are there so many striking similarities between Caprica City and modern-day Seattle? Could it be that Caprica City is actually Seattle in an alternate reality? I have a few examples of this reasoning, the most obvious is the iconic Pike's Place Public Market sign we keep seeing during the show's cut scenes. Where else in the galaxy would you find that!?

I've done some digging and came up with five more reasons why I think that Caprica City is based on the Northwestern town . . . or actually is Seattle somewhere in time. Find out more after the break.
