Pixels are popping up just about everywhere these days, so it's only natural that the time has come for that love to reach iPhones and iPads. Thanks to one company called Big Big Pixel, 8-bit bumpers for cell phones and sleeves for iPads and MacBook Airs are now a real-life thing. Pick one up and keep your devices covered in some truly geeky 3D style.
At this weekend's party, surprise your friends with a playlist of everyone's favorite pop songs with an 8-bit twist. Every child of the '80s and '90s will appreciate synthesized sounds reminiscent of marathon Nintendo sessions.
We found 8-bit renditions that are so good, you can't stop yourself from jumping up to dance to the electronic beats. Check out hits by Gotye and Flo Rider that are still topping the Billboard charts, but indulge in a few pop classics by Justin Bieber and LMFAO too.
1) Wild Ones — Flo Rida Featuring Sia
2) Call Me Maybe — Carly Rae Jepsen
Play the rest of the 8-bit music after the break.
Our passion for the lo-res aesthetic of pixels and eight-bit beauty isn't going anywhere regardless of how advanced our digital lives become. For his Fall/Winter 2011 collection, Japanese designer Kunihiko Morinaga took a different take on his clothing label Anrealage season's prints by transforming familiar florals and color blocking into pixel-style cubes.
Kunihiko takes his concept one step further, with the theme carried over to the Anrealage store in the Harajuku neighborhood of Tokyo. Every last detail is a piece out of a pixelated video game dream; from the clothing collection to the large floor rug and the wooden furniture down to the lightbulbs has a touch of lo-fi inspiration. Check out more views of the shop in the gallery, and a peek at what can ordered for home use this Winter.
There have been a number of Game of Thrones memes since the show aired (Stupid Ned Stark and the 8-bit remix to name a few), but this animation of a Game of Thrones RPG has to be my favorite. Playing out each character in true 8-bit RPG style, it takes you step by step through the crazy story lines of all the main characters. Crazy, but awesome. Check it out below!
We may be smack dab in the middle of holiday season here on the Sugar Network, but I can't help but share with you this crazy-fun find to whet your palate for next year's wedding season. We already have enough geeky wedding ammo to fuel an entire ceremony, so this 8-Bit wedding invite is the icing on the cake (pun intended).
Complete with binary code speech bubbles, the vintage feel of this wedding invitation I spotted on BuzzFeed has me longing for my arcade days. Of course, if you do rock the old-school invite to your wedding (or DIY it for any occasion), just be sure to have some retro gaming action on hand to complete the feel. Party on!
I try my best to keep my desk area at work clean, organized and free from clutter. But my wall space, now that's a different story. It's still quite stark and bare, but these blue and black 8-bit Wall Decals would be the ideal way to spruce up my space.
For $40 from surface graphics company Blik, you get a combo pack with four 15-inch sprites and 16 6-inch sprites from popular 8-bit games of the eighties.
Other colors in the pack include teal and tangerine.
