3D Glasses Get Personal With the Look3D Collection

With 3D making its way into more film houses and home theaters, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to spice things up a bit in the eyewear department.

With 3D making its way into more film houses and home theaters, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to spice things up a bit in the eyewear department. Hipsters, rejoice! You can now get your 3D glasses to look like the plastic neon ones you sport on the street (or perhaps your favorite Aviators) with the Look3D personal 3D eyewear collection. Not only are there 3D glasses made to emphasize the traditional movie theater experience, but there's also plenty to choose from for home viewing as well.

Each set goes through stringent quality testing and are certified RealD lenses. They're even customizable with your eyeglass prescription to lower risk of squint-endued headaches (if the 3D doesn't get you there already), but unfortunately, there's no price associated with these bad boys, so they're probably right up there with the three-figure Samsung models we've already seen, but may be less expensive than the Gucci ones that are said to be in the works. Let's just hope the "disposable" collection is biodegradable (and comes with a lower price tag)!

Biodegradable 3D Glasses Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

With 3D not only taking over our movie theaters, but our living rooms as well, it's good that someone considered the damage that cheap, plastic 3D glasses can cause our environment.

With 3D not only taking over our movie theaters, but our living rooms as well, it's good that someone considered the damage that cheap, plastic 3D glasses can cause our environment. Thankfully, two eco-minded companies — Cereplast and Oculus3D — have teamed up to produce a clean line of biodegradable 3D glasses to use in the theater and the home. Astonishing fact — 42.1 million 3D glasses have been distributed for screenings of Avatar alone, and considering how many more flicks are on the 3D train in 2010, that number will easily climb even higher.

Samsung Announces 3D TVs, Starter Kits, and App Store

It was a big morning for Samsung — not only did it announce that its first HD 3D TVs will hit shelves this month, but it will also be rolling out 3D-ready Blu-Ray players, will be launching an app store for your home theater, and is partnering with DreamWorks to bring you some extra movie-watching goodies.

First up are the TVs. Samsung's lineup of HD 3D LED TVs will go on sale this month, starting with a few 46 inch and 55 inch screens, while the remaining LED and plasmas will roll out over the next several months alongside its Blu-Ray players. All of Samsung's new 3D TVs will come stocked with Real240Hz refresh rates for the clearest picture without blur and drag. Additionally, if you purchase a new 3D TV and Blu-Ray player, you'll get a starter kit that includes two pairs of Samsung 3D glasses (sold separately for $150) and a copy of Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D to kick-start your home theater experience.

Would You Pay More For Designer 3D Glasses?

3D glasses are fantastically fun, but there's next to nothing fashionable about them.

3D glasses are fantastically fun, but there's next to nothing fashionable about them. At a recent 3D Entertainment Summit (read: geekfest!) word got out that plans are in the works for designer and prescription glasses with lenses compatible with Real D 3D.

While some might scoff at the idea, naysayers will have to admit most 3D glasses make movie watching awkward and even painful. There's no word whether designer glasses would cost more, but if popcorn prices are any indication, I'd guess theaters will try and make a buck on the stylish shades. Would you pay more for designer 3D glasses if you were on a movie date or seeing a flick in the same place as the president?

Barack Obama Geeking Out

Oh Barack, where have you and your BlackBerry been lately?

Oh Barack, where have you and your BlackBerry been lately? It feels like it's been forever since we've talked about our favorite US president. What with all the cell phone drama that ensued when he first moved into the White House, things have been pretty low-key since then! Well some fun photos have surfaced on The Official White House Photostream, which show the president and his wife having a geeky good ol' time. Both taken by Pete Souza, the first one is of Barack, Michelle and friends sporting 3D glasses while watching the Super Bowl and the second is of President Obama playing around with a photographer's Canon 5D in Mesa, AZ.
