Opinions are split over the iPad Case With Wings ($40) on Etsy. I spotted it yesterday, and my initial thought was to laugh, hard. I mean, check out the case when it's all wrapped up. Then I took a closer look — namely at the, uh, available color options — and started to get a little bit grossed out.
Many people's first reactions (including ours at Sugar HQ) were snickers and disbelief over the name. Industrious Etsy seller Hip Handmaids jumped right on the trend, constructing the vinyl and cotton case available for preorder now. There's even a disclaimer: "Hip Handmades' iMaxi is for basic protection of your iPad." What do you think?

1Totally stupid!! So know anything with "Pad" in the title is associated with menstration? Bye bye mouse PADs and track PADs!!!
2Who in their right mind would take their phone out in front of people, when they're pulling it out of a Maxi Pad.
3It is very funny, but hopefully many do not actually find it functional. I got a good laugh out of all but the one with the red center--too gross for me!
But I agree with Anon 2, the ipad jokes were (kind of-not really) funny for a week, lets get over it people.
4It's gross, especially the white one with the red middle. But really, I just wouldn't want to deal with all the extra bulk from the wings. I'd want a sleek case for my ipad (not that i'll ever have one!).
5I think it's great for avoiding theft. you can just leave it lying around and no one in their right mind will mess with it!

9The iPad is pretty big, so no way would someone mistake this case for a real maxi-pad.
They could consider making a smaller version for the iPhone. That might look about the right size for a real maxi-pad. Yes, it would be good for hiding in plain sight (but embarrassing to use!). Pickpockets probably would miss it, too. However, if you lose it somewhere, chances are you won't get it back even if no one steals it, because someone might mistake it for trash and throw it out.
Verdict: It's gross yet awesome, but there aren't too many people who would want to buy that.

It's no dumber than Apple coming up with a brand new gee-golly-goshwow gadget that shows NO AWARENESS OF FEMALE CUSTOMERS!
And it apparently tromps on a Japanese brand registration, to boot.
I wouldn't use one of these cases because I'm not going to buy a tablet that sounds like it belongs in my bathroom.
