Only in my dreams do I get to hang out on a yacht and scuba dive with a never ending oxygen supply while I photograph the sea creatures of the South Pacific. Such is life in Endless Ocean. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest Wii title, hoping that it would satisfy my childhood urge to be a Marine Biologist. It lived up to my expectations, but also gave me something I didn't expect.
Endless Ocean has many positives. It's beautiful — the detailing of the fish and coral reefs are very lifelike. It's educational — the more you pet, feed and interact with the fish, the more you learn about them. . .And there's a ton of species to find. It's free roaming — go anywhere you want, anytime. There are also no rules in this game.
Something I did not expect about this game is that it's oddly relaxing. Granted the soundtrack is a bit cheese with Enya-like tunes, but coming home, chilling out, checking out the sights of life under the ocean and completing a mission to hunt down hidden treasure turned out to be a stress reliever! After I put down the Wii remote, I had forgotten all about the daily grind. But unfortunately, all of that warm and fuzzy goodness couldn't hide the fact that it's bound to get a little boring. Once you discover all there is to see in the game, its replay value is low, and that's to say you even get that far. To see what I liked about it read more
Flickr user hello_naomi has done it again with her baked-to-edible-geek-perfection video game inspired cupcakes! These vibrant Pacman treats come adorned with the cherries, ghosts and golden Pacman taken from the original arcade video game. Hello naomi confesses that she's added a touch of "artists interpretation" to her geekilicious creations by including an eye on Pacman—Maybe it's just me but I think Pacman looks much better with an eye, now he can see what he's eating! And if you happened to miss her Super Mario cupcakes, you've got to check them out, they are absolutely scrumptious! Scroll down for more Pacman cupcake pics!
The Hidden Camera Detector from ThinkGeek appeals to the worst part of me — the paranoid, it could-happen-to-me part. I have seen way too many Dateline NBC exposing those with hidden cameras in ladies' bathrooms, workplaces, and even inside your own apartment! See, there it is!
In many ways I think this tool could be useful — at the very least, it would put you at ease. Not to mention, it's only $25 and tiny enough to fit in your palm, so no one is aware of your craziness until the thing starts working and emits an audible alarm, telling you that yes, you are on candid camera.
What do you think? Paranoia indulger or safety guarantee?
If your sweetheart really wants to spoil you this Valentine's Day, maybe he could splurge and get you Sony's red limited collection bundle — the perfect gift for a geek chic gal who is in need of a new notebook! For $1000 the bundle includes a sangria red VAIO CR Series notebook, which comes with a 14.1-inch LCD screen, a built-in webcam, and a CD/DVD drive. You also get a matching protective case, an optical mouse, and a multi-colored hearts key chain from Dooney & Bourke. And if you don't need a new laptop, there's always the pink iPod nano!
I thought I'd seen all the creative and clever possibilities in iPod cases, but it seems my prayers for something different have been answered. I know some of us worship at the altar of Apple, but this may be taking things too far.
The Hymn Book iPod Cover from Urban Outfitters can hide your secret media-player obsession while everyone on the street just thinks you're practicing your hymns. What do you think: ironic statement on the relationship between tech and religion, or holy-rollin' blunder?
This geek tip is pretty simple but a total party-saver at times. If you have a series two and above TiVo, and your TiVo is hooked up to your network, you can access your iTunes (or any other mp3) library from your TiVo menu. First, download TiVo Desktop for free. Then just go to your TiVo homescreen and select "Music & Photos." Scroll down this list, and you will find your computer by whatever name you've given it (i.e., mine comes up as simply "G5"). Choose this and you'll be directed to your music library (note: only mp3 files are accessible). Then select the songs you want to hear and play! If you've already created a playlist on your computer, you can have a party mix ready to go, straight from your TV!
