Once in a while, I'll find some of my favorite TV shows (like American Idol) in HD and make sure to tape them on my DVR. . . . but when this does happen, it's a rare treat. Needless to say, I was overjoyed to hear that one of my all-time faves, the Oprah Winfrey show will be broadcasted in HD this Fall. "We’re pleased to offer viewers their favorite daytime talk show — the Oprah show — in stunning HD beginning this Fall," Harpo president Tim Bennett said. With Oprah already going high tech with the online Webcast on demand for A New Earth, this recent announcement doesn't surprise me at all!
Technology Being Used to Fight Street and Web Crime
Ever wish your laptop could do more than just order you up a pair of shoes? How about using it to fight crime? Victims of crimes in Brazil can now log onto Wikicrimes and pinpoint the exact intersection of the criminal attack.
Maybe you know everything that Spotlight does already, and maybe you've never really thought about the little magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of your Mac's screen.
If you're in the latter category, then I have some tips that will make your life easier. You may use it most often in the search bar of your browser window or to hunt down stuff in iTunes, but these tips explore the offline applications of this handy little tool (for those of you who have updated to Leopard).
Click on the Spotlight icon for:
A Dictionary: Don't waste your time looking for a website to do it for you — just open spotlight, type in "lugubrious," and hit enter. Spotlight activates the Dictionary application and provides you with the definition of the word and its etymology.
A Calculator: Just type the math problem into Spotlight and the calculation is performed and displayed in the window.

Although digital photography might be something you are leaning towards (since you all are so tech savvy!), there are some factors to consider for both. The rich depth and grain of film photography is something unique that you can only get with film. Sure, your digital photographer can fiddle around with Photoshop for each of your photos to try and bring out those same qualities, but it's just not the same.
