I know, we're all wrapped up in the iPhone 3G mania, but here's a phone that deserves just as much love as the iPhone — HTC's Touch Diamond. Last month I got to witness the official launch and unveiling of this sleek handset and was very impressed with it's overall design, user interface and performance.
Weeks before it is set to go on sale in Europe (and months before the US), I got my hands on the Diamond to see how well it's features actually function. The most noteworthy (and my favorite) feature about this phone is it's TouchFLO 3D interface which makes basic tasks like emailing, viewing photos or contacts and checking out the weather fully animated. Web browsing is made easy with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, as the Diamond will automatically adjust web pages to perfectly fit the display screen (you can also turn the phone sideways).
To get an idea on size, have a peek at the pics below. No word on US pricing just yet.
Let's face it — gadget lust can get pretty expensive. Especially if you let yourself snatch up every hot and shiny new thing that comes along, adding to your already mountainous collection of electronics. Thankfully I've learned my lesson after years of spending far too much on gadgets than my girl Savvy would think is appropriate, but now I'm proud to be called a sale hound.
Unfortunately, shopping around can be time consuming. Who has time to frequently check multiple stores, hoping that the items you really want will come down in price? I know I don't, which is why SavvyCircle is my new BFF when it comes to helping me find a bargain. To see how it works, just read more
With all the hubbub of lovely Leo getting cast as Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari, I'm hoping that this is the herald for Hollywood movies about Silicon Valley denizens. Thankfully, this Leo flick sounds more compelling than Josh Hartnett's August, and I think it's because this is a biopic. I want to see the history of tech, not a total dramatization.
When I think of what stories I'd really like to see played out on the big screen, I of course think of my Steves. I want to see the fashionista Jobs and the ladies' man Wozniak as young ones creating an empire and all the ups and downs in doing so. Someone thought Noah Wylie would be a good Jobs, but I disagree — I'd like to see someone a little more dynamic announce iPhone 3G's and such. I've got a few suggestions for actors below, but let me know who you'd think would make the best silver-screen Steve!
After hearing all the in's and out's of Apple's new iPhone 2.0 software and the iPhone 3G (on sale July 11), something that really grabbed my attention - other than the built-in GPS and amazing apps - was MobileMe, a service that allows you to sync all your photos, email, calendar, contacts from your Mac (iCal, iDisk, Address Book and Mail) or PC (Microsoft Outlook) to your iPhone over the air. With MobileMe, as soon as you move an event on your computer's calendar, or add a contact, it will appear on your iPhone in about ten seconds and vice versa.
Similar to .Mac, MobileMe will cost $99-a-year, with 20GB of included iDisk space, and will have a 60-day free trial so you can check it out before dropping the $99. Until I get my hands on MobileMe, I won't know if it's going to make my life that much easier, but I'm definitely liking what I'm hearing.
Now that I've got the sport-obsessed dads covered, I thought I'd throw in some more, shall I say, extravagant gadgetry goods for dads who know their love don't cost a thing yet deserve the best of the best electronics. I feel like now is the time to throw in that line from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Hilary says, "Daddy, I need five thousand dollars!" Yes, if you've got the cash and want to pay daddy back for that sweet sixteen Corvette (ha ha), have a look at some of my top picks for spoiling your fabulous father this Father's Day.
I think me and a few thousand other women who saw the Sex and The City movie would like to have a few words with Mr. Big. But I'm going to leave that up to the writers and instead focus on his alter ego: Chris Noth. Having embodied TV's most famous commitment-phobe for years, Noth had some 'splaining to do on behalf of Mr. Big when it came to some of the silly and plot-altering tech habits he had at the press junket for the movie.
Are you tech savvy?
To a point. And then I stop. I mean, I have a cell phone, I have a computer, and it's great for sending some emails. But we do lose something by not being able to compose a letter. When I was at an age falling in love, we wrote letters and when you write a letter, you’re taking more time and it's just certainly a little bit more of a poetic medium. I can’t even see a poem or an email that would even go there.
For more of Mr. Big's sentiments (spoiler alert!), just read more
I'm a big fan of charging stations, but for a long time, the only ones available were completely utilitarian — sharp lines, boxy shapes — with no heed paid to someone's interior design. What, geeks don't care about home decor?
Retailers like Pottery Barn are starting to make better-looking stations, like the Bento, but still not affordable. So I was pleased when I saw that World Market had a $25 charger, with nary a sharp line in sight! Theirs is made of seagrass, and though it's a little too shabby-chic-meets-geek for me, I like that it fills an aesthetic void. What do you think?
