I have all kinds of dorky Summer-themed songs in my head, and I can't wait to get out of the city and to a beach (or a river, or a pool, or a lake. . . ). But I don't disconnect, so I'm researching the right waterproof gadgets to take with me. I need to take pictures, play some tunes, and not worry that I'm going to ruin everything with my splashing. Click through to see my picks for wet hot American Summer fun!

One would assume that with over 24 million Nintendo Wii's sold worldwide, CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper would be up to speed with gaming console trends. Not so much. In this clip you'll see Cooper referring to the Wii as the Why-ee. . . no word of a lie. Thankfully his partner in crime Erica Hill spoiled him for his birthday by giving him a Wii and Wii Fit (wait a minute, he's a Gemini too?!). Let's just hope that his new tech treats will be put to good use. . . and no more calling the Wii a Why-ee!
Maybe I need to be appealing to the fashionistas of FabSugar, because as geeky as this Pixelated Heart Pin is (adorably so — it's made of Legos), it takes someone with fierce sartorial confidence to pull it off.
One of Fred Flare's Next Big Things, the heart pin was designed by accessory impresarios Dee and Ricky, whose Lego belts have appeared on the Marc Jacobs runway. I love that the heart resembles a pixelated one, it's very Zelda, right?
I'm sure many of you will have mixed feelings about this one, but consider this a shout out to my geeks who take fashion risks! What do you think?
It has been over a year since the Dwayne Wade Sidekick 3 was released, and now another famous athlete is getting in on the smartphone action. Set to come out this July is the silver metallic Tony Hawk limited-edition Sidekick LX.
Designed by Tony Hawk through-and-through, the Sidekick LX will be the first Sidekick to feature video record, play and share capabilities. It will also include an alarm clock, a high-def LCD screen, stereo Bluetooth functionality, plus all the other standard Sidekick goodies like web browsing, IM, email, and a QWERTY keyboard.
"I’ve been a loyal Sidekick user since the first model that launched back in 2002. . . I use my Sidekick for everything from staying connected to friends to keeping my hectic schedule on track," said Tony Hawk. "I’m excited to be collaborating with T-Mobile to create a brand new, custom Sidekick LX that will represent action sports, as well as my own style.”
Pricing info hasn't been released yet, but stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for purchasing details.
Phew! After all the time I've spent working my bod on the Wii Fit, I've barely had time to sink my teeth into other gems that have hit the shelves in the past month! Now that the 30 day Wii Fit challenge is almost over, I'm looking forward to settling in with some games that are sure to have me laughing, aiming, and sweating until I reach the last level. Wait a minute, that sounds just like the Wii Fit, doesn't it?!
Check out my slideshow for some geek approved video games that just may bring back last Summer's case of Nintendo thumb. Have fun out there, but hey — don't forget to get out and grab some sun this month. . . you're looking a little pale.
Seller Indigo Daydreams has found her geekery niche on Etsy: She paints Bluetooth earpieces (most of them seem to be old Plantronics 220s) from dull black plastic to whimsical, colorful little tchotchkes, like this teal polka-dot number.
Now, to be delicate here. . . . The 'tooth was pretty ugly before, but I am not sure it looks much better in the afterlife. Maybe it's because I've gotten used to thinking that sleek designs like the Jawbone are the name of the game.
But maybe I'm too safe in my choices — I also shied away a little from those customizable Jabra earpieces, so clearly I'm not the right audience. Are you?
Ew, Ew, Ewww! I've never been more grossed out or intrigued by a gadget that I've posted (oh wait), but this Electromagnetic Cockroach Expeller is giving me the severe heebie jeebies. Goosebumps are forming, and it is unclear when they will subside. Even the plastic cockroaches are freaking me out.
For just $25, the Expeller uses flashing lights to "drive" the bugs away (like saying "I love you" too soon?), rather than just killing them dead, like some other cruel-to-bugs gadgets I know.
I'm curious to see how annoying the lights would be, and if it actually works. I have great sympathy for anyone who has this problem — even though I've seen maybe one live one in my entire life, it will last me my whole life.
