Imagine being able to interview for jobs all over the world — without leaving your hometown?!
Companies LiveHire and LeafsofTalent are looking to blow up the workforce with Webcam Interview Ready Rooms (WIRRs) and Interview Ready Rooms (IRRs), so that employers and potential employees can connect remotely for job interviews. The plus side is, you won't have to worry about whether you should shake their hand.
I think it's an exciting and logical conclusion — phone interviews have long been the standard for preliminary interviews, so this is like a halfway step between that and an a physical, face-to-face interview. Would you want your job interview to be web based?
A lot of the creative leads up at Pixar are huge fans of the Disneyland attraction (or ride) posters. A lot of the ones from the 60's were done in this very simple, colorful style. In fact, you always come across a few pinned up on the walls when you walk through the halls of Pixar.
Tan not only has the Wall-E posters under his belt, but he has also worked on posters for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and even the Indiana Jones flicks. Check out some comparisons from the Wall-E posters and the Disney rides, and the rest of the interview over at io9 — hopefully you can contain your excitement for one more day until the robot hits the big screen. Will you be going to see Wall-E this weekend?
Sweet! You just purchased a 32GB Edge flash drive to store your files, but now you're wondering what the heck this drive can actually hold — how many MP3s? Movies? This is all important information! Well Sensible Units will help you on your quest, taking any unit of size (not only tech related) and converts it into real-world objects. I suggest playing around with it. . . Who knew that 5cm was 6.3 dry basmati rice grains end to end? Or that 4 MBs is only equivalent to 1.3 MP3s worth of songs?! Love it!
And in a final attempt to kick the rumors to the curb, SK Telecom (Helio's parent company) released a statement yesterday, calling the rumors "groundless" and they are sticking by Helio till the death. However, SK Telecom did say that Helio and Virgin were in "early talks" on a deal for the US market. So just to stay on the safe side, maybe you should hold off on those plans to swoop up the new iPhone and bow out of your Helio contract (ETF free) for just a while longer!
Yesterday I introduced you to the geeky clothing line Rhombus, and because I was so caught up in the presentation of nerd courtship, I didn't get to highlight any of the individual pieces. Something I couldn't resist showing you was something truly geeky, but in such an undercover way that it's not like wearing a message T and bashing people over the head with it: The James dress shirt in binary (it's in Flash, so just navigate to the women's section in the online store).
Other binary apparel can be sort of geek in the unglamorous way, what with t-shirts that make you wear your hobbies on your sleeve, literally. I love a good button-down, and for one in subtle binary code, it's already got me sold. The only thing I'd be worried about is fellow male geeks staring — they've got the perfect excuse: "I'm trying to read your shirt." Sure you are, buddy.
When I did my last quiz, Cell Phone or Perfume Name?, I think we both noted that the primary offender with their one-word, splashy names is LG.
The electronics company uses these names for their cell phones and other tech products to titillate and appeal to customers. You know who else did that? Alfred Hitchcock.
It seems like LG has been taking notes from the seminal horror-film director, but thankfully, there's no "LG Psycho" yet.
On average, how many text messages would you guesstimate you send each month? I would say I average about five or more a day, so I probably max out at around 150 - 200 per month. Well Paige Horne, a 15-year-old from Ohio, averages about 15,000 texts a month — that's even more than what the 13-year-old National Texting Champ sends! According to NewsNet5, Paige plays volleyball and basketball and her GPA is above 3.0, and yes, she is a lightening fast texter.
"I just don't look. I guess I had the phone a long time and I just know where the buttons are and I just hit them," she said. Thankfully for her parents, she's under an unlimited phone plan where texting is included, but I can't help but ask what she's doing for all her sore fingers?
