There was no lack of shiny new phones, games, or new software this week — check out my slideshow to see why it was good to be a geek at the end of January.
I don't always love all the Juicy Couture things I see (the Pink Mouse and Mousepad Set, or the Velour Laptop Sleeve, anyone?), but I do appreciate that they make a valid effort to make tech accessories and peripherals.
This USB Stick Keychain is arguably the Juiciest, brand-wise, considering the heart shape, pink color, and ubiquitous "Choose Juicy" message. But I have to give it to them — this is something I would carry around, since I'm always concerned about losing (or having to root around in my bag for) the flash drive I try to keep on me. Being on a keychain would eliminate that problem, and the overtly girliness of it doesn't completely deter me because of its usefulness.
However, it is only 1GB and not exactly market price — $65 — for a flash drive that size. I'm not sure I'd buy it, but I'd enjoy it if I had it.
If you have a blog (and who doesn't these days) then you should definitely check out stock.xchng, a free stock photo site that lets you download amazing creative images from over 30,000 photographers. If you're on OnSugar, you can of course use free Getty Images in your blog, but if you aren't (or can't find what you're looking for) then stock.xchng is where it's at.
Of course, there are terms to agree by — like you have to properly source, and ask for permission if prompted to — but it's really easy to find what you're looking for. Plus, stock.xchng hosts some pretty informative blogs that will teach you the finer art of Photoshop. Maybe someday people will be using your photos on their blogs!
If you ever watched MTV's Pop-Up Video, then you'll probably feel a little bit of excitement by knowing that YouTube has just added fun annotation functionality to its videos. When you are viewing a video you've uploaded, click on Menu, and you should see the annotation option (they are still rolling it out so not all users may have it yet). And if you find that the annotations start to get annoying, there's an easy way to get rid of them. Here's a vid to give you the gist of what I'm talking about.
Take your favorite online auction site, and your favorite social networking site, and shake. Result? Bonanzle, a new website that allows people to interact with the ease of Facebook while buying and selling goods from each other.
While eBay has always allowed you to contact the seller of an item and vice versa, encouraging an easy interaction has never been a focus, whereas on Bonanzle, it's a main focus, allowing buyers and sellers to IM with their chat feature, or integrate your own chat client like AIM and Gchat to connect.

Maybe it's what the NY Times said about the iPhone being the hot new kitchen gadget, but I'm suddenly finding myself wanting to get my cooking skills to Top Chef level. To that end I've found the best iPhone apps for cooking — all either free or less than a buck.
