Ever wondered what cell phones the Gossip Girl characters would carry if Verizon didn't sponsor the show? Me too.
We get to see what the real-life kids would carry through the voyeuristic lens of Bravo's new GG-inspired reality show NYC Prep. Although the dialogue doesn't crackle as much (these are real teenagers, after all), one thing the fictional show got right is the cell-phone addiction. To be specific? You only need one word to typify their cell-phone obsession: BlackBerry, BlackBerry, BlackBerry.
There was not one cell phone that got screen time last night that was not a BB; it was even noted by one of the girls: "I love how we all have BlackBerrys. It's like the typical New York thing."
Indeed, like Gossip Girl, their phones almost never leave their teen hands, and one teen girl even corrected her mother that she's not texting — she's BBMing.
What else is hot for NYC rich kids? Gel cases! White, red, grey, black, burgundy . . . though, no green, oddly.
Just days after T-Mobile announced their next Google Android handset — the myTouch — HTC is now announcing their latest Android smartphone, the Hero. What's great about HTC is that it really strives to improve its handsets over time, so you know you're always getting something exponentially better than a previous model. For instance, the Hero comes with a whopping five megapixel camera and an anti-fingerprint coating on its 3.2 inch HVGA touchscreen. . . a big step up from the Magic. You can check out the video below to see its fancy new HTC Sense UI in action. The HTC Hero will be available in Europe and Asia later his Summer and will make it to the US by the end of the year.
Thankfully when I jumped on the Facebook train, I didn't do the whole "import people from my email contact list." And now, I don't get inundated with emails from Facebook, making suggestions about who I should FB "befriend." When my friend asked me WTF was going on with all of these spammy friend request emails, I knew it had to be happening with others — and it sure is.
When Facebook scans your email contact list for friends, it makes note of the friends you add and don't add. You see, the people you don't add stay in Facebook's system and will come back to haunt you later — exes, your backstabbing high school enemy, old bosses. Facebook will then continually remind you about these people with their "Facebook Friend Suggestion Emails."
To remove these contacts and any trace of them on Facebook, just log in to your account and go here. Done and done.
BTW, the t-shirt is from Zazzle if you're digging it.
$15 from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, the shower curtain's little faces express happiness, distress, silliness . . .the same way you do over text and IM. My feelings about the curtain skew toward how I feel about emoticons in general: avoid unless necessary.
However, this could be the perfect bath time accessory for the texting addict. What do you think?
The kids of Gossip Girl are headed off to college — some NYU, one Brown, and one Columbia (although I have a feeling we'll only be seeing one campus somehow) and I have been having a lot of fun outfitting my favorite characters with gadgets and tech accessories. If you missed any, check out my roundup for the tech stylings of Blair, Georgina, and Dan!

This year during the WWDC keynote, I particularly got excited when navigation applications were announced — I'm not the best with directions. Well, AT&T has just released their TeleNav Navigation Application for the iPhone, which is a free app to download, but it is rumored to cost $10 for monthly service. Now, I really enjoyed the TeleNav Navigator on my BlackBerry when I took it for a test drive, and monthly service on that is about $10 as well. But keep in mind you don't have to pay $100 for the receiver when you are using your iPhone. . . so you save that much money right off the bat. AT&T also allows you to cancel the service at anytime — perfect for those times when you leave town or you're not using it very often.
