Okay, maybe actress and comedian Sandra Bernhard doesn't really carry an 8-track player around with her, but in a recent interview with Switched, she gave the interviewer the traditional Bernhard brush off and poked a little fun at technology. Not that anyone expected her to be a gadget freak, but her reference to the ever so vintage geek 8-Track got a giggle out of me. What else does she think about gadgetry? Here's more:
What gadgets do you always bring with you to the set (for down-time)?
My cell phone and an 8-track player.
What cell phone do you have right now and what do you love/hate about it?
My Samsung 3G. I love everything about it except when it beeps when an email shows up day or night and I can't turn it off.
Name one thing you wish your iPod/cellphone/laptop (any gadget) could do that it doesn't do now?
Clean the house.
What annoys you most about your iPod, cell phone, or laptop (or any other gadget)?
I get tired of the music on my iPod. The laptop isn't annoying but going through airport security with it is.
Here's the perfect speaker to go along with the red USB ladybug mouse. This portable ladybug speaker looks idea for frequent travelers and those of us who are always on the go. It can literally fit in the palm of your hand and can connect to an iPod, MP3, MP4, MD, CD player, notebook, PC, PDA and PSP through the headphones jack. Don't expect to use it as your sound system at your next party, but for personal jam sessions, it's probably ideal. Each speaker comes in red or green and costs $16. Would you use this? Yay or nay?
Still pondering whether you have to, want to, or need to get an iPhone when it is released June 29? Not everyone is willing or able to drop their network provider and jump ship to Cingular right away, and if you do you may find yourself stuck in a two year contract, crossing your fingers that a huge pay out is the only thing holding you back from freedom. (Seriously, cell phone contracts are the worst!)
The fact that the iPhone is only being released from Cingular (now the new AT&T), but the price tag isn't particularly desirable either. The phone will cost $499 for a 4-GB device and $599 for an 8-GB model, even after you sign your life away on the contract.
Well here's a little consolation. Posted on Coolest Gadgets, there's now a site where you can go to try before you buy third party iPhone software. iPhone applications showcases all cool applications you can purchase to pimp out your iPhone. Like mom always said, try before you buy.
Apple Inc and The Beatles’ company Apple Corps Ltd. didn't resolve their longstanding trademark dispute until this year, but it seems the issue is water under the bridge for Sir Paul McCartney. McCartney is featured in a groovy new Apple iPod + iTunes TV ad promoting his new album, "Memory Almost Full" (pretty geeky title, right?) and his full catalog of 25 solo albums was made available for the first time digitally on iTunes last month.
“'Memory Almost Full' is a very personal album for me, and I'm thrilled to let fans experience it in a whole new way,” McCartney said in a press release. “There’s no better time to make this music available through iTunes.” He may have just celebrated his 65th birthday, but I swear this ad makes him look 10 years younger.
Remember the days of real chain letters, real love letters you received in an actual mailbox and paper thank you cards? I love e-vites and social networking sites as much as the next person, but I mourn the loss of formal correspondence all too often.
Enter the eSnailer website, which allows you to type a letter to a friend or relative and will print, envelope, stamp, and send your letter via regular US postal mail free of charge.
From what I know, the person I sent a letter to hasn't received it yet, but that might just be because no one expects snail mail anymore. How is the site free you ask? It's supported by ads, so after you write your letter you will be asked to accept one of their free offers. Paper trails are sovintage geek.
The fact that cameras are now portable enough to slip into our tiniest back pockets and clutches means daily opportunities for fun and impromptu photo sessions. If you're tired of posing to look slim or just taking nightscape photos you can always spice up your repertoire by taking cute spinning photos. If you have a kid, you're probably well versed in the wonder that is spinning. If you don't, it's time you grab a camera, partner (preferably someone who's still in grade school), head out to the park and commit photo jojo's guide to memory.
