If you have a pet name for your computer like "snuckems" or "magic machine" you may not be alone. According to a recent study conducted by Sega and iShare, more than two out of five Japanese women regularly have conversations with their computers. Even more staggering? Apparently, 10.2 percent of women gave their computer a nickname, such as "Mac-kun," "Pasoko," "Pudding" or my personal favorite, "Princess."
Young women are also likely to talk to themselves during times of high stress, or when they do something wrong, says the Mainichi Daily News. Other tech-related habits include decorating their computers or work areas with stuffed toys, and in a few cases giving their computers names.
There is only person who tops the wacky iPhone boy when it comes to excitement over the device's release. That is this man pictured at the front of the line of the Apple Store on 5th Avenue in New York City. While he's fully stocked with Scooby snacks and what appears to be Gatorade - I counted eight plastic and paper bags full of goodies - he seems to have forgotten his sunscreen and shirt. Does this man, who is reportedly from Long Island and named Greg Packer, have what it takes to make it? I'm thinking an appointment with a waxer might be necessary.
If you're sick and tired of looking for ways to cut down on your cable clutter, it might be time to flat out embrace it and let it become a constant part of your environment. In an artistic way, of course. The Britta Böhne Cable Carpet creates a groove in the carpet especially for your cables, but it also has an insert that the cable snaps into to hold it in place. It wouldn't be ideal for the extreme gadget lovers who have a bajillion cables to manage, but it is a visually pleasing way to acknowledge the fact that most of us can't live without our cables.
The iRiver M Player has been making noise in the geek-o-sphere recently and I wasn't sure if it had geeksugar appeal until my geek about town calamari gave it a stamp of approval by sending me a note about it. You may have guessed from the token ears that this is an official Micky Mouse MP3 player. It comes with lanyard earphones, which I think is its cutest feature, and you can control volume and song choice by rotating the ears. It also features USB and supports MP3s, WMA and ASF.
If you're beginning to think your chances of winning an Academy Award are pretty small, you might consider taking a big step into the novelty gadget world with the Oscar USB camera.
It's an "Oscar Style" USB Webcam, meaning it's not exactly licensed and is silver rather than the traditional Oscar gold, but it has four LED lights and looks like a load of fun.
The device connects to your USB port and will allow you to video chat and practice your acceptance speech should you ever win that award. It costs $10.
Okay, so I don't have an iPhone yet, but the promise of getting one later this week and the fact that people are already starting to line up at Apple stores got me thinking about the pure, unadulterated joy I felt as a kid when I got a new toy, gadget or tutu. Can iPhone-obsessed adults ever top the infamous kid who got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas? You know, the one who freaked out on home video circa 1996? Well, that kid is all grown up and when I asked my friends how he might react to getting an iPhone, they all jumped at the chance to pay tribute to him. OMG! OMG! OMG! Watch it.
