Jackets and shirts that are decked out to house and power up your gadgets have become increasingly popular, but what about geek apparel with enough pockets to house your devices? The Personal Area Network Microfleece Pullover has five pockets, including a specially designed chest pocket with a ZIP-PIP for sunglasses and "back-up," patent-pending magnetic closures. The pullover also features the patented Personal Area Network (PAN), a detachable key chain, an epaulet to attach devices, like walkie-talkies, ventilation eyelets and an adjustable waist cord. It costs $59.99. I can't imagine why anyone would consider it "geeky," because the pockets and features are hidden, but then again, not everyone is willing to spring for a shirt that has the name "Personal Area Network" in it. Would you wear it?
While geeks seem to be seeing into the mainstream lately, taking centerstage in new movies and TV shows, most of my favorite brainy characters and quotes come from classic "Geeks Rule" movies. Sure, they are often the most obnoxiously quoted movies, but they are among the best. Cover scans courtesy of Amazon.
Today's Moment of Geek comes to us courtesy of FitSugar's friend, who has a custom cake business, Cakes By 2 Moms, in the Bay Area. What I like about these edible geek treats in comparison to the oodles of video game cakes we've seen, is the fact that they look like something I'd like to eat. They aren't covered in inches of fondant, but they still tout some serious geek cred and creative designs. Can you name all the Mac navigation controls and functions keys on the cupcakes?
Guessing from her facial expression, Milla Jovovich was really bummed that the Capcom press conference didn't have any Wii sports games on hand. Rather than taking part in a fun boxing match, Jovovich got stuck playing "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles," which thankfully for her unborn child, required little movement. via KotakuImage Source
Sure, Pac-Man is often credited with being a landmark in video game history, and is among the most famous arcade games of all time. Sure every mother, child and brother knows how to play it. And yes, we love the Pac-man shot glasses, and scarves out there, but would you decorate your living space with a Pac-Man Rug? As nostalgic as it makes me, I'm gonna have to leave this one in the dust, especially after learning it costs $2,182. Source: Pac-Man
While the holidays seem close at hand to the retail industry, they are still far enough away that most of us don't want to even think about gift buying or giving.
While I'm not ready to start stuffing any stockings, I don't want to let the bevy of new "it" products from stores like Firebox and Thinkgeek go out of stock before I get my mittens on them, so I'm stocking up.
My favorite gift right now is the Zip Code Puzzle from Firebox. They are unique map-style jigsaws centered on a place of your choice. You send the company the house number, street name and zip code of the area you'd like at the center of your puzzle and they send you a personalized puzzle.
