One of my favorite things about using Flickr is playing with all the fun applications and alternative ways to view archived photos. If you've already checked out retrievr, Spell With Flickr and Depictr, you should check out the Flicker Related Tag Browser, which offers a beautiful display of images and image tags related to your search.
For example, My "cookies" search turned up a ring of tags like "chocolate," "mint," "food," "dough," "foodporn" and "baking." When I clicked on "chocolate chips" I was treated to a drool-worthy matrix of chocolate chip pictures people have uploaded to Flickr.
If you want to send an anonymous message to someone (don't we all), there's a great website called had to say that will let you do just this. With 'had to say', you can confront bad drivers or co-workers, confess your love to secret crushes, send discrete thank you's or anonymously flirt. To get started all you need to do is sign-up for a free account. Click on 'send message' and type your message. You can anonymously notify the recipient of their message by either a masked email or with a coded message notification card that you can print off the website and discreetly hand deliver. The notification will direct the recipient to the site to retrieve their message and you can check back to see if the recipient has responded—how cool is that? There is no limit on counter-responses as all messages are public but sender and recipient information is kept private. Just know that your convo will be displayed on site so keep it clean and don't reveal any personal info! To learn how to post your favorite sites to the Website of the Day group, just read more
If you just got the new iLife ‘08 suite and are playing around with iPhoto, here is a tip that will explain how to convert your colored images to black and white. After you import your photo, click on the album and give it a name. Now click on the image you want to edit and make a duplicate copy of the original. Once you select it, it should be surrounded in a golden edge and the image should be in full screen mode. To access the edit bar, roll your mouse over the bottom of the screen and click on effects.Choose from a variety of effects including black and white, sepia, antique, fade color, original, boost color, matte, vignette, or edge blur. According to photographer Mark Kuroda, if you don’t like the desired effect, you can click on original and it’ll cancel out the effects and If you really like the effect, keep clicking the mouse on it to create more layers. Good luck!
If you're an everyday geeksugar reader you probably already took the first edition of our tech quiz about the ins and outs of computers. If you're a newbie, here's your chance to prove your smarts. I suggest starting off with part one as a warm up and then tackling today's brainteaser, which tests whether or not you've been paying attention to general tech knowledge, user manuals and your IT person. It's a lot more fun than it sounds, I promise. (Photo courtesy of the Original Macintosh User Manual)
We all know how important it is to keep our laptops off our laps and bed covers so they can stay ventilated and cool and we all know what happens when we don't, but are we really so lazy that we need stands that let us lie flat and work on our computers? Thanko has created an aluminum/steel laptop stand that's USB powered and features two fans that blow room-temperature air into your hot laptop. While the stand allows you to lay back in bed, you can also use it in more practical positions — such as on a table, sitting up in bed or in a chair. I find the notion of working at the computer while laying down almost laughable, but I do like the simplicity and practicality of this stand, which because of the fact that it's USB powered won't require any additional outlets.
As if it wasn't hard enough wearing earrings and headphones or earbuds at the same time, Hello Kitty Hell alerts us to a new, kitschy phenomenon: Hello Kitty iPod Earphone Charms. The charms serve no real function, but they fit around the bud part of your ear buds and add a little extra bling to your life. Are they cute enough to be considered chic, or are they useless and geeky accessories? Source: Techie Diva
