This Saturday happens to be Hobbit Day, which is the birthday of the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. In case you missed the memo, Bilbo and Frodo are two fictional characters from J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit," and subsequently characters in the movie series staring Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood.
The series happens to have an extremely high mark on the geek meter and a very special place in my heart. I wouldn't say either character can really hold the "geek" torch, but the impending day of celebration got me thinking about who I admire most in the geek world.
If you want a low maintenance pet, check out the Roboco by TakaraTomy. This robot, which was discussed on GeekAlerts, is supposedly the new and improved Tamagotchi—remember those? It eats, sleeps, needs attention, poops, gets sick and needs to be patted twice on the head when happy—ok forget about what I said about it being low maintenance! Each Roboco reacts to sound and comes in blue, dark blue, green, pink, white or yellow for $17 from AudioCubes.
Cybercrime and drug trade are arguably two of the most talked about and elusive types of crime because both are incredibly hard to catch and measure. While drug trade has been glamorized in the media for being a quick and dramatic way to make money (think Showtime's Weeds), identity theft and cybercrime in general have become increasingly common and lucrative. Has cybercrime surpassed drug trade in terms of profitability, or is drug trade still the top illegal money maker? Image Source
The beautiful Sarah Jessica Parker was captured taking a break between takes on the set of the Sex and the City movie Tuesday afternoon. As much as we're hoping that the new movie will be full of gadget gear including SJP's signature MacBook, I'm not going to expect Carrie to have a new iPhone. And as for this BlackBerry Curve? I'm thinking that she was using it for pleasure over business, perhaps checking in with the adorable James Wilke? Flawless nonetheless!Image Source
This messenger tote may not be a proclaimed laptop bag, but it certainly would be a luxurious way to carry your laptop around. Featured on The Purse Page, this dark brown Lanvin Odeon bag comes with a leather handle and adjustable shoulder strap. Aside from the $2,100.00 price tag, I actually think it'd be a perfect laptop carrier for fall. Do you love it? Leave your comments below!
The Cross MP3 player first caught my eye because of its shape, but I was even more intrigued when I noticed the player, which combines an element of geekery and jewelry, is only $36.
I learned from 2dayBlog that it features a built-in loudspeaker, has phone-book, electronic files, FM radio, voice recording and supports MP3 and WAV files. No word whether it was created to represent a geometrical figure or the four cardinal points, but if it is supposed to be a religious player I think it definitely beat out the iBelieve shuffle player.
